Three Georgia players have been dismissed from the football program, head coach Mark Richt announced on Friday. .

Defensive back Nick Marshall, freshman wide receiver Sanford Seay, and freshman defensive back Chris Sanders have all been dismissed for undisclosed violation of team rules.

“It’s a privilege to play college football and to be a part of this team and University,” Richt said in a statement released by the school. “Along with that privilege comes certain responsibilities. Mistakes were made, and part of our job is helping them learn from mistakes. Going forward, we are committed to assisting them find opportunities where they can continue their education.”

Of the three players, all freshman in 2011, Nick Marshall was the only one to see significant playing time. Seay redshirted this past season, while Sanders was sidelined with an injury after three games. Marshall, who mostly played special teams, was expected to play a significant role in the Bulldogs' secondary next season. His high school coach, Mark Ledford, offered a comment to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"There were going to be a lot of opportunities for him," Ledford told the AJC. "It's a shame he's wasting those opportunities at Georgia. He's going to have to accept the consequences and hopefully learn from them."

Richt's dismissal announcement flies under the radar in the Bulldogs' news cycle, now that prized OLB/DB Josh Harvey-Clemons has officially signed his letter of intent. For much more on Georgia's roster moves check out the Bulldogs RapidReports.

Its funny how some people think this is just a problem at Georgia, when SI just done a report back in March 2011, about college football and crime, seem like every college football team in the Top 25, except one had players with criminal records, so I wouldn't be pointing fingers at anyone’s program.
A six-month SI/CBS News investigation ran a criminal background check on the Top 25 Teams, of the 2,837 players, 7% had criminal records, and of the 8.1% of scholarship players in trouble, only two of the Top 25 schools did background checks, none checked juvenile records.

OleMissRebels62, have you been freeze dried or had your head stuck in the mud? If ANY fan in the SEC should make this commit it sure ain't Ole Miss. Go ahead and Google two names Jamar Hornsby and Jeremiah Masoli when you get a chance. Sure these kids ran into trouble at their prospective schools, but Ole Miss came running with arms wide open to get them on campus. Should these three players UGA dismissed look to send in paper to attend the great moral compass known as Ole Miss?

This is a sad day for Georgia football, the university and the fans. I can't imagine something like this happening under Vince Dooley. However, times change and many schools seem to have a number of wayward students who think little of the school, and the opportunity they have been granted. This leads to many off the field problems, and a stain on the reputation of the university. At least quick action has been taken to get rid of these miscreants.

No longer does Miami stand out as the number one breaker of rules. This situation can happen anywhere and at any time. It is unfortunate that this misbehaviour seems to be a sign of the times.

Obviously they weren't useful players. Otherwise they would still be on the team.

I am a University of Arkansas graduate who played football for the Razorbacks in the mid-70s. There is no coach that I admire more than Mark Richt. He is a Christian man of principle and character who makes tough decisions. If anything, and this is hard to write, he may be to nice a man to coach D1 football in this era.

Chopermaddux - Fair enough and you are right that Saban has done alot of good around Alabama since that awful day when all of the tornados hit around the school and across the state. I apologize for making dumb comments.

Your comments about Richt just got under my skin. The players were booted for rules violations and possble criminal acts. This had nothing to do with cutting players to make room for other.

Thanks for that!  I apologize for intentionally taking a jab at Richt and this situation.  It was all in fun, I am a man of faith and the things Richt stands for and what he has done off the field is to be commended.  The timing of it, and the situation made it appear from the outside it was spring cleaning, but once I looked a little closer it was obviously a situation where kids messed up and were shown the door. Good for Richt.

Now that we love each other again, if Bama plays Georgia in the SECCG I hope it is reminiscent of the 08 game between the Hedges.  31-0 is a fine first half score I think.  Good luck to the Bulldogs this year.

Richt kicked off Mettenbeg, a 5 Star QB, who is going to possibly start for Les Miles Tiger this year and the kid Marshall was a very highly recruited 4 star players. All 3 players were part of last year's class and were expected to contribute this year.

You are right that UGA fans do want to win championships.  I do not hate the University of Alabama or thier fans but I also do not approve of some of  of Nick Saban's ways such as oversigning/Over-committing. I do think if the NCAA does approve 4 year scholarships that it will change the way recruiting work.
