Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

From calling mid-majors the "Little Sisters of the Poor" to asking Jim Tressel not to fire himOhio State president Gordon Gee has not exactly been one to keep his mouth out of the headlines over the past 12 months. And he may not be for the next 12 months, either, judging by this interview with OSU student newspaper The Lanternin which he tells Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema to "get a life."

Bielema infamously accused new Buckeye head coach Urban Meyer of using "illegal" recruiting "tactics" and asked Badger athletic director Barry Alvarez to voice his complaints to Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany on his behalf. Gee emphatically stood up for Meyer in the Lantern interview, calling him the "finest in the country" and "the greatest affirmation of the quality of this institution."

When asked directly about Bielema's comments, Gee was every bit as emphatic.

"We hired the best coach and we went out and got the best kids so get a life," Gee said.

Ah, Signing Day: that magical time of the college football calendar that can lead the president of the third-largest university in the country to publicly call out a coach within his own conference using an insult from a 36-year-old Saturday Night Live sketch.

Gee also referred to the NCAA investigation into Tressel and the Buckeye football program that resulted in its 2012 bowl ban as a "yearlong colonoscopy."

We now fervently await Gee's next pledge to cease discussing matters related to football.

Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

Two Observations:

1 - Gordon Gee = Marge Schott

2 - Recruiting doesn't directly correlate to coaching.  Urban doesn't have Tebow anymore.  We'll see if he can "coach up" the stolen recruits.  Most of his years at Florida were good but not stellar, outside of his Tebow years...

BTW - ask Mack Brown about #2.  Texas wins the recruiting war every year but they don't win the Big 12 every year...

Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

How does this Gee guy still have a job.
B/c he is flippin' awesomse, that's how.   From calling his own compliance department the polish army, to bielemna to buzz off to cracking on Bosie state (which i don't agree with in principle, but was still funny) he possesses a charming abilities to voice his feeling, political correctness be damned.   Refreshing.

Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

Thee Ohio State may not play in a bowl game next year, which is too bad...but just wait for 2013...Buckeyes will be competing for the national championship.  Oh yeah, and we'll beat scUM next year as well, so you better enjoy your win for the next decade scUM fans.

Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

Typical of Ohio State, an idiot for a President.
Jim O'Brien was fired in the late 1990's for playing cash to players and a Final Four finish was vacated, along with other games.
Maurice Clarett cheated academically to stay eligible and participate in a national championship.
Tressell was dirty, and now the President is goofy.
Impressive leadership is not something that goes with Ohio State!

Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

Gee is the Woody Hayes of college Presidents..just shut up and raise funds or look to Saturday Night Live...Bielema needs to shut up and win a signficant bowl game to justify his existence or Barry Alavarez may ride the elevator from his suite at Camp Randall down to the sidelines.Cry

Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

I wonder how Smith and Gee feel about their decision to accept a bowl game with a 6-6 team last month when next year's team should be a lot better and they will be sitting home watching everyone else.  Nice judgement call there.

I thought about that too LSU, and I don't get the impression that it was an either, or.  Seems like the NCAA dragged their feet a bit as far as announcing the sanctions.  OSU had already committed to play in the Gator Bowl by the time the penalties had been announced.

Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

What a pompa$$ a$$ this tool is. His school is on probabation for some pretty serious infractions and he's acting like John Rockefelle? This guy must be related to Jim Irsay, in liking to hear himself talk. I have no dog in the OSU-Michigan rivalry, or with any other Big 110/11 team, but now, after 2 years of lying to the NCAA, not using the word Michigan on ots schedule and all the junk this guy's said and done, I have some serious OSU hatetred.Tongue out

Don't have alot of love for Gee, but his comment is dead on.  The insinuation of Beliema's that something was illegal had better have more in it than one of his verbals signed elsewhere.  If Meyer did something wrong, then come out with it.  If he just beat you in recruiting, then do a better job of it next year.  THE OSU, has had enough of this drudgery.  As alumni, we will live with the penalties, and look forward to watching our team get back on the field in January 2014.  In the mean time, these attackers may try to kick us around, but we are not down.
