Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

From calling mid-majors the "Little Sisters of the Poor" to asking Jim Tressel not to fire himOhio State president Gordon Gee has not exactly been one to keep his mouth out of the headlines over the past 12 months. And he may not be for the next 12 months, either, judging by this interview with OSU student newspaper The Lanternin which he tells Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema to "get a life."

Bielema infamously accused new Buckeye head coach Urban Meyer of using "illegal" recruiting "tactics" and asked Badger athletic director Barry Alvarez to voice his complaints to Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany on his behalf. Gee emphatically stood up for Meyer in the Lantern interview, calling him the "finest in the country" and "the greatest affirmation of the quality of this institution."

When asked directly about Bielema's comments, Gee was every bit as emphatic.

"We hired the best coach and we went out and got the best kids so get a life," Gee said.

Ah, Signing Day: that magical time of the college football calendar that can lead the president of the third-largest university in the country to publicly call out a coach within his own conference using an insult from a 36-year-old Saturday Night Live sketch.

Gee also referred to the NCAA investigation into Tressel and the Buckeye football program that resulted in its 2012 bowl ban as a "yearlong colonoscopy."

We now fervently await Gee's next pledge to cease discussing matters related to football.

Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

I realize Gee is basically the king of fund raising and that is why OSU will keep him around.  For a complete nerd, he is a fairly funny guy, whether he intends to be or now.  All these types of comments do is put a little more fire into the rivalry, and there is nothing wrong with that.  I wonder how Smith and Gee feel about their decision to accept a bowl game with a 6-6 team last month when next year's team should be a lot better and they will be sitting home watching everyone else.  Nice judgement call there.

Yes, thankfully you are a Michigan man. While Gee certainly is a tool, Ann Arbor is a Tools R Us megastore.

Agreed Kubbfan, he did the exact same thing in the OSU game.  Everyone point to the hail Mary, but both of those games required Wisty to rally from double diget deficits in the fourth quarter in order o even make a game of it!

This guy is an utter clown. He should abide by the addage that "it is better to be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt." He's sophmoric and petty, inserting himself into situations for no reason. He may be better off trying to police his criminal athletics department rather than giving interviews to student reporter wannabes. Someone should alert him that wearing a bow tie doesn't mean you're smart, it just means you're smug. If he had a colonoscopy it would double as a lobotomy as well.

Ohio St people have zero respect for other schools or rules period.  If a person from Miami came out acting like this the Ncaa would do something in a heart beat.

i agree setting yourself up as a crybaby over the loss of a recruit seems a wate of tiem to me. i think wisconsin lost the first michigan state game because of coaching. he played the game like they were going to get a first down was a mistake. the game should have benn over before the hail mary. beside he doesnt really know how good that recruit would. he may ge hurt.

The Rose Bowl has become a watered down shell of its former self. After Alabama was invited to and won yet another Rose Bowl in 1945, the Rose Bowl committee had finally had enough of southern football. After all, the Rose Bowls origins were pitting the best team from the west against the best team from the east. Unfortunately, Alabama kept coming there and beating the teams from the west and the east, so they decided that they werent going to invite southern schools anymore. The end result was a Pac 10 vs Big 10 matchup every year. Until very recent history, the Pac 10 was USC and then a bunch of other schools, and the Big 10 was Ohio St and Michigan, and a bunch of other schools. It was basically a USC vs OSU or UM every year. Wake me up when that awful game is over.
