Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

From calling mid-majors the "Little Sisters of the Poor" to asking Jim Tressel not to fire himOhio State president Gordon Gee has not exactly been one to keep his mouth out of the headlines over the past 12 months. And he may not be for the next 12 months, either, judging by this interview with OSU student newspaper The Lanternin which he tells Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema to "get a life."

Bielema infamously accused new Buckeye head coach Urban Meyer of using "illegal" recruiting "tactics" and asked Badger athletic director Barry Alvarez to voice his complaints to Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany on his behalf. Gee emphatically stood up for Meyer in the Lantern interview, calling him the "finest in the country" and "the greatest affirmation of the quality of this institution."

When asked directly about Bielema's comments, Gee was every bit as emphatic.

"We hired the best coach and we went out and got the best kids so get a life," Gee said.

Ah, Signing Day: that magical time of the college football calendar that can lead the president of the third-largest university in the country to publicly call out a coach within his own conference using an insult from a 36-year-old Saturday Night Live sketch.

Gee also referred to the NCAA investigation into Tressel and the Buckeye football program that resulted in its 2012 bowl ban as a "yearlong colonoscopy."

We now fervently await Gee's next pledge to cease discussing matters related to football.

Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

Any coach in the Big 10 who couldn't get an Iowa recruit to decommitt from Iowa and coach Kirk Ferentz wouldn't be worth the salt that would flavor his future.

Ferentz, the coach who rolled over and played dead, with 53 seconds left on the clock and 30 yards to go, for a game winning field goal, with the Big 10 title on the line, in the horseshoe, against Ohio State, only to lose the title in overtime. He played dead so the Big 10 could send two teams to the BCS that year. Yeah, any father would love to see their blue-chip recruit go to Iowa so he could have Ferentz tell him to sit on the ball with the Big 10 title on the line. Ferentz (notice coach was left out) isn't worthy of any opportunity to represent the Big 10 in any future bowl game and every blue-chip recruit in the country should know that!

Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

This post appeared on another site when all of the whining started last week, and does a far better job of summing it all up than I could:

Seems like everybody won here. Ohio State got the top recruits, and every other B1G school got to feel morally superior because they “do things the right way”, which is the time honored B1G tradition of rationalizing why they never win anything of note.

Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

Unfortunately, these puffed up elitists in the Big 10-plus-2 and the Pac-12 DO think a Rose Bowl victory is more imporant than a BCS title game victory.

For my part, I'm still stunned that Gordon Gee and Gene Smith are still employed by Ohio State given how badly they handled the Jim Tressel scandal...

Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

LOL...exactly! Bielema has revealed himself as a whiner. He'll soon be back to losing...it's familiar territory.

Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

I wonder if Gee is worried about the possibility that Urban might fire him for running his mouth?

Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

Urban Meyer spent 5 years in the SEC. He knows what it takes to win. Bielema said "We in the Big 10 dont want to be like the SEC in any way, shape or form." Well, forgive me, but why would you not want to be like the conference that has won 6 straight national championships? As long as the Big 10 chooses to "not be anything like the SEC," the titles and recruits will continue to flow into the southeast. In the past 5 years, the SEC has signed 55 5 star recruits. The Big 10 has signed 13. Its not the 1930s anymore. Get with the times, or you will continue to be an "also ran" conference. Or maybe folks in the Big 10 think that winning Rose Bowls is better than winning national titles.

Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

Although I agree with Gee that Bielema should quit his crying and just worry about his own program, doesn't this goofball Gee have other issues to attend to on the Ohio State campus? Oh I forgot! We're talking about Ohio State where success on the football field is the only thing that really matters. Trivial things like higher education and academic achievements are a distant  4th to the football, basketball and golf programs.

Badger fan here, and i agree, Bielema needs to just take care of his own business and do a better job solidfying his recruits.  And since players have come to Wisconsin by opting out of their original committment, it seems somewhat hypocritical.  Now Gee on the other hand, shouldnt be casting stones either given their recent history of violations.
