Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

From calling mid-majors the "Little Sisters of the Poor" to asking Jim Tressel not to fire himOhio State president Gordon Gee has not exactly been one to keep his mouth out of the headlines over the past 12 months. And he may not be for the next 12 months, either, judging by this interview with OSU student newspaper The Lanternin which he tells Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema to "get a life."

Bielema infamously accused new Buckeye head coach Urban Meyer of using "illegal" recruiting "tactics" and asked Badger athletic director Barry Alvarez to voice his complaints to Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany on his behalf. Gee emphatically stood up for Meyer in the Lantern interview, calling him the "finest in the country" and "the greatest affirmation of the quality of this institution."

When asked directly about Bielema's comments, Gee was every bit as emphatic.

"We hired the best coach and we went out and got the best kids so get a life," Gee said.

Ah, Signing Day: that magical time of the college football calendar that can lead the president of the third-largest university in the country to publicly call out a coach within his own conference using an insult from a 36-year-old Saturday Night Live sketch.

Gee also referred to the NCAA investigation into Tressel and the Buckeye football program that resulted in its 2012 bowl ban as a "yearlong colonoscopy."

We now fervently await Gee's next pledge to cease discussing matters related to football.

Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

A life which includes a classy suspenders/bow tie/shirt clash?  Gordon Gee's best move was to leave my beloved state of Colorado and impose his pansyness on the poor people of The Ohio State University.  Now I just wish he would go back to his mother planet and leave those folks alone too.  (He dropped the "k" from his last name when he went pro...)

Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

Well it will all pan out in a few years. No one want to be in Ohio, look at Lebron James, couldn't wait to get out of Ohio. Meyer will find it is a lot harder to recruit to a crappy place like Ohio vs. Florida. That is the real reason the Big Ten is so bad, they can't recruit because thier schools are in crappy areas.

If I were a student and someone said do want to go to place that is cold, and humid, or would rather go to place like Fl were 10 month out of the year the girls wear thongs. Gee I am 19 years old, I think it is the girls.

Ohio Stink "Gee it smeels down there"

I wonder why Durban quit a top notch program in the first place.  Wouldn't this be considered a step down from the Florida job.  Since he had already won 2 champs there, and o.u. on probation.  Maybe he was looking for a challenge, and since ou has so many mentally challenged players, (tatto gate, clarett gate, etc).  I think he landed in the right place...

Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

Now I know why the SEC and other conferences are alot better than the Big Ten.  They have a gentlemens agreement not to sign the others "verbal" recruits.  Who is stopping Florida, USC, Alabama, LSU and others from doing so.  Man up Big Ten, maybe with more ambition like this, the Big Ten can rise up to the top again.  Urban is going to bring back OSU into contention, and be able to go toe to toe with the above mentioned.  If the others in the Big Ten want to hold each others hands and have tea together, oh well, keep being bottom dwellers.  As much as I liked Tres, he built the team to win the Big Ten, but could not hang with the other big boys from the other conferences.

Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

The Ohio State diploma just lost more value.

How is this trash talking rube a president of a university?  Any university?  Not just a major university.

He belittles athletes at other schools.  He makes fun of religious orders.  He makes glib comments about being fired by a football coach.  He makes ethnic slurs.  And now, he trash talks coaches of other universities.  All of this in a year that he calls a colonoscopy?  It really is not his butt that hurts, it is the butt of every loyal Buckeye alum.

This guy sounds more and more like a plumber than a president.  (No offense to plumbers here.  Most have more respect than the President of THE Ohio State University.)

C'mon Ohio State.  Have some self-respect and fire this guy before he does more damage to your university, the Big Ten, and to college athletics.

I understand that he was fired at Brown University for being a second rate mind.  (Not even a PhD.) The Wall Street Journal reported that he was pushed out of office at Vanderbilt for embezzlement.  So, what gives at Ohio State?

A shame for a school that once had a proud reputation.

(BTW Buckeyes, Coach Tressel is still coaching if this guy does not bungle the PR and relationship with NCAA.)

Ohio St.'s Gee to Bielema: 'Get a life'

Well Urban has certainly shook things up in his brief time in the Big Ten, hasn't he???

OSU fans, relax already.  Yeah we know, you think Bielema is dbag...just like like many of you probably thought Meyer was until about a month ago.

OK, look at this from another perspective.  Hypothetically speaking, what if Meyer started complaining about the fact that Bielema had contacted a recruit that had verbally committed to OSU...and then he changed his mind and went to Wisconsin.  Considering this has not been the way Big 10 coaches have conducted themselves in the past, would you have suppoerted Meyer's complaints?  Just asking...

Personally, I don't think what Meyer did was that big of a deal...its not illegal.  Meyer has basically increased the intensity when it comes to making sure your recruits sign on the dotted line and officially commit.  And I'm sure other coaches will now be targeting his verbal commitments as well...everyone is fair game from now on.

Valid question Madtown,

I can only speak for myself when I say that I personally would not have a problem with it.  In fact, as much as it infuriated me to hear that the kid from St. Eds flipped to scUM after Tres was let go, I don't fault Hoke for doing so.  As for Urban Meyer complaining about another coach flipping an OSU commit, I can't imagine that happening, not in a million years!   That would pretty much be the height of hypocrisy!
