UPDATE: CBSSports.com's Brett McMurphy confirms the Big 12 schedule will not be released on Friday (Feb. 10).

The idea that the 2012 Big 12 conference schedule would be released on Friday (today) reportedly was just "the wishful thinking" of Texas Tech athletic directory Kirby Hocutt.

The Oklahoman's Travis Haney, citing a source within the league, says that Big 12 officials are "getting close" to completing the 2012 football schedule. Unfortunately for Big 12 fans - especially West Virginia fans - the slate will likely not be set by the end of this week.

CBSSports.com's Brett McMurphy reported that the Big East and West Virginia have reached a $20 million settlement that would allow the Mountaineers to compete in the Big 12 for the upcoming season. The close timing of the buyout negotiations and the Big 12's intentions of putting out a 2012 conference schedule led to the concerns of West Virginia appearing on two different conference schedules. However, with legal issues behind them, the Mountaineers should be clear to complete a 10-team conference for competition in 2012.

Report: Big 12 schedule 'getting close,' not done

As I've posted before, I really think this is not good news for the Texas a&m aggies and Mizzouri as they negotiate their own buyout.  The Big12 will just pass this cost along to those teams.  They (aggies and Tigers) will cite precedent with NU and CU but those teams did not put the Big12s TV contracts in jeopardy and the time constraint was foist on the conference by these teams moving after the deadline (in July).  It is also my opinion that TCU should be given equal treatment for helping with their exit fees (again, paid for by a&m and Mizzouri).  The Big 12 also needs to set aside an amount to help Louisville (and maybe Cincy) out when those numbers are called.  Look at it like trading some aging players that have peaked for extra draft picks with greater potential.

Is this really anything other than what was expected? WVA reaches a financial settlement with the Big East, possibly with financial assistance forthcoming from the Big 12, and the schedule then gets done. Unlike the Big 10 and SEC, the Big 12 is now no longer a "contiguous" conference with schools from adjoining states.

If you saw it please provide a link. Otherwise you are just making stuff up. Since WVU has. Game at FedEx field I highly doubt they have seven home games in addition to that.

Great to hear WVU gets out of the awful Big East football conference.  Now let SU and Pitt go to ACC and be done with it!!

Report: Big 12 schedule 'getting close,' not done

Feldman should tweet that the Big 12 schedule will not be published on Friday, now that would be funny at Texas Tech.
