The latest Florida Gator to be arrested has also become the latest Gator to be suspended.

Rising sophomore tight end A.C. Leonard was suspended indefinitely by Florida head coach Will Muschamp Thursday, following Leonard's Wednesday evening arrest on charges of simple domestic battery.

"This behavior will not will be tolerated and A.C. has been suspended from team activities at this time," Muschamp said in a statement. "I certainly don't condone this type of behavior - it is not what we expect from the University of Florida football program."

That may be the case, but it's only fair to say that arrests of one kind or another are precisely what many other people expect from the University of Florida football program--Leonard's was the 10th arrest of a Gator since Muschamp's hire 14 months ago. And the details of this one are uglier than most: according to the account given to police by Leonard's girlfriend, Leonard knocked her over with a two-handed shove, attempted to drag her out of their apartment by her hair, did pull her out by grabbing both feet, then locked the door. She reportedly suffered abrasions on both arms.

Leonard was jailed overnight Wednesday and released on his own recognizance Thursday. A blue-chip prospect in Muschamp's inaugural 2011 recruiting class, he caught eight passes for 99 yards his freshman season.

In Muschamp's defense, of the nine Gators arrested during his tenure (former corner Janoris Jenkins was arrested twice in early 2011 before being dismissed), eight of them were either signed or recruited by his predecessor Urban Meyer, Leonard included. But it was also Muschamp who vowed when he was hired that the Gators would adhere to a higher standard of behavior he dubbed the "Florida Way"; as of yet, those words seem to have fallen on deaf ears where his roster is concerned.

And judging by this picture of an (as of yet officially) unidentified Florida player riding his scooter inside the Gator football complex, tweeted early Friday morning by safety Matt Elam, those ears haven't gone un-deaf yet:

To all the haters it is stull Urbans fault.  I do love the scUM fans on here spouting and not knowing what they are talking about.  We Buckeye fans are used to that.

OrlandoGator72,  I know where he got the picture which is my whole point.  He doesn't know the story behind the picture and he's making one up.  I don't condone on a CBS blog.  On a personal blog- go for it.

As far as the point at hand.  I reserve judgement until the whole story is out.  I don't know about you but when someone asks me to leave their home, I do.  I don't condone dragging people out of houses but if they refused to leave makes you wonder.  Sure he could always call the police if he wasn't trying to defend himself or had access to the phone.  He didn't strike her just removed her out of HIS house after he asked her to leave.  Makes you wonder if there are two sides to the story.

My point is that Muschamp handled the correct way and UF's problems are minute compared to other colleges.

BTW, I smoke pot to ease chemo symptoms and I'm a non-judgemental Republican.

Have a good day.

Whether she attacked him or not, doesnt condone him dragging her around by her hair. I've been attacked by a g/f before, it doesnt take all that to subdue a woman. Nothing he could say would constitute a reason for his action

And they call US the Criminoles? So much for that eh? UF has had WAY more kids arrested in the past 5-6 years than we have. If it were me, he would've been kicked off the team for assaulting a woman, no matter how good a football player he is. That kind of behavior is completely inexcusable. Wth is the matter with all the kids at UF nowadays? Are they just dumbasses or what? First Janoris gets caught smoking weed over and over and over, then Elam riding a scooter in the most sacred of places on campus, now this? Seems somebody needs to teach those guys some damn respect, and what being a man is about....

You can blame Meyer for this all you want but this kid grew up down south and got his attitude from being in SEC country.

Robert, the (I think rather funny) picture on this post is from a different college football blog.  Not only that, but Twitter accounts are PUBLIC PUBLISHING just like a newspaper article.
Anyway, riding around the locker room on a moped isn't really the most respectful thing to do.  But to the point at hand, I hope the player dragging the girl around is expelled and never comes back, just like J. Jenkins before him.

Muschamp is putting together a hell of a junior recruiting class.  He just got a commitment from Fred Taylor's son today.  The future of Gator football should be fine for the near and better for the farther out future.
