Buckeyes' Sheridan leaves to become Buc DC

Paul Chryst and the Pitt Panthers aren't the only team looking for a new assistant coach thanks to Greg Schiano's raid on the college ranks to fill out his Tampa Bay Buccaneers staff, as Ohio State defensive assistant Bill Sheridan has been tabbed as the new Buc defensive coordinator.

Sheridan's tenure with Urban Meyer's new Buckeye staff lasted just 19 days after he was hired to a non-specific defensive coaching position January 30. An Ohio State spokesperson confirmed to OSU student newspaper The Lantern (which first reported the story) that as of Friday Sheridan was no longer a member of the Buckeye staff.

Though Sheridan has a long track record of assistant coaching at schools across the Midwest, he had also spent the previous seven seasons working in the NFL, first with the New York Giants and then the Miami Dolphins. Sheridan was promoted to the Giants' defensive coordinator post in 2009 before being fired at the end of the season.

That being the case, it's hard to fault Sheridan for his decision, even given the short turnaround from his Ohio State stint--for an NFL coach given a second chance at coordinating an NFL defense, Schiano's offer had to have been far, far more appealing (and likely more lucrative) than coaching, say, safeties for the Buckeyes.

Still, Meyer will no doubt be less than thrilled to have to start searching for another new defensive assistant this close to spring practice.

You make a valid point, although once again you are looking a bit in the past.   Miami may be years in recovery and FSU plays ACC. If you are a stud you will choose UF.

First, like the disclaimer, past performance (and you need to go pretty far into the past) is not a guarantee of future sucess.  Obvious by recent lack thereof.

Second, the talent pool is deeper in Florida, sorry Ohio.

Third, when Ohio State decides to play in the big leagues AKA the SEC they are just another Mud Hen wallowing in AAA.
Yes, Florida has more talent than Ohio, but they also have to compete with a ton of other schools for the players. Ohio State has no in-state rivals and Michigan, Notre Dame, and a few other schools are the only other BCS teams that really dig around in-state. So they get first pick of what is generally a well-stocked state. Florida doesn't have that luxury, and they never have.

"much more sustainably good"

Where did you learn to write... The OSU?   Why didnt you just say something like they are "gooder" than?  Then you prove your stupidity with the comment that "I'm perfectly fine with living in snow and ice"  ... also why add "with" in the sentence? Paid per word?
Still waiting for a rebuttal to my factual claims, not grammar. Any time.

(For your sake, I will spell it out for you: The Ohio State football program has a better long-term chance at staying relevant the University of Florida's.)

I'll wait.

There's no arguing that OSU has had a very storied past, and I'm not trying to.  Just as there's no arguing that UF has not had a storied past prior to Spurrier's reign, again, not trying to.  What I am arguing is the fact that you state the 'former lover married up', when on both occasions that UF and OSU have played, we beat you, pretty handily, thereby disproving your arrogant comment.  Not sure how one would move up by working for a lesser team.  And you can argue all the history you want, but it doesn't make you the better team today....winning does.  Right now, both UF and OSU have a long ways to go before either has any room to brag, but to try and brag about being so good after just suffering a losing season, not doing anything worth a damn in recent history, and to try and talk shyte about being better than a team you can't beat is truly ignorant.
Ohio State is a better program than Florida. That's why we win more on the large than the Gators do. Hence, "marrying up." Sure, you've won twice against us in your last two meetings. That doesn't mean you're a better program. I guess Utah is better than Alabama or that Michigan State is better than UGA? Come on. There's just a little more than wins and losses that goes into being an elite program. Staying power matters. The athletic teams themselves are only one part of any school's athletic department. And Ohio State's is simply more lucrative, powerful, and sustainably good compared to Florida's. Why else would Urban Meyer say Ohio State was his dream job, then?

Considering what Florida has done recently compared to Ohio State...well that's just too much for me. I am actually crying tears of laughter now. Ever since St. Tebow left, Florida's been complete garbage. Ohio State, until this past year, was at least winning 10 games a year and going to far more prestigious bowl games compared to Florida. Take your two wins over Ohio State and Will Muschamp. We'll gladly "settle" for Urban Meyer and the future he has in Columbus.

And OSU is just the flavor of the month for Meyer.  Give him a few years, once the talent on his staff are off to other places, and Meyer will find some new illness or family matter to tend to.
I'll take 6 years of what Florida had.

Says the fan of the team that UF owns.  Remember, we spanked that ass a few years back for the NC, and whooped your ass again last year when we were at our worst in two decades, giving you your first losing season in what, over 100 yrs, right?
You win 2 games against Ohio State and own them, eh? Not my point. The point is that the Ohio State football program is much more sustainably good than UF's. That's why Ohio State has had one losing season in 100 years and Florida has had many many more than that in the same time period.
You proved my point about Florida being worse than Ohio State yourself- "giving you your first losing season in what, over 100 yrs, right?" So you basically admitted that Florida's crappy pre-Spurrier teams were about as good as last year's Ohio State team...aka the worst OSU team in 100 years. So congratulations are in order, I guess. Where was the party at?

(One more thing- To say last year's Gators teams were worse than Ron Zook's teams is a real diss. Chris Leak > John Brantley? Really?)

Yes, because I would much rather trade in all this sun, warm weather, beaches, pools, tiki bars in Feb, shorts and flip flops in the dead of winter to go live in bleak, frigid, snowy, miserable Ohio.....
Some of us don't like the heat all year round and I'm perfectly fine with living in snow and ice. Sure it can be a pain, but it's not there all year. I can live with it. You southern boys could do with some cool weather...it'll thicken your skin I think.

Florida is the south's trash can.
Only due to all the damn yankee's moving down here cause the north sucks so bad.

Florida Gator fans are the jilted ex right now.
And OSU is just the flavor of the month for Meyer.  Give him a few years, once the talent on his staff are off to other places, and Meyer will find some new illness or family matter to tend to.

Their former lover married up and they're left with a big fat unknown now.

That's my theory on why they're so crabby. (And that they live in Florida.)

Both UF and OSU are overrated corrupt teams that are twice as talented, but half as good as TCU and Boise State.
