New Penn State head coach Bill O'Brien has finalized his coaching staff for the 2012 season with the hire of Charlie Fisher as quarterbacks coach. Fisher joins the Nittany Lions after one season at Miami of Ohio as passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

“With the hiring of Charlie Fisher as quarterbacks coach, we have completed the Penn State football coaching staff,” O’Brien said in a release. “This is a staff made up of men who care about the mission of Penn State University and being successful on and off the field.  It is also a staff of winners, with five staff members that have been a part of national championship teams as assistant coaches.  This is a staff that has won many games; some while being a part of the same staff, and is a staff comprised of former head coaches, coordinators and tremendous recruiting experience.”

Fisher spent nine years on the Vanderbilt staff, the last five as passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach. While with the Commodores, he was helped with the development of quarterback Jay Cutler and coached the SEC's all-time receptions leader, wide receiver Earl Bennett. Fisher also had coaching stops at N.C. State, Temple and Eastern Kentucky.

Wide receivers coach Stan Hixon, running backs coach Charles London, offensive line coach Mac McWhorter, tight ends coach John Strollo, defensive coordinator Ted Roof, secondary coach John Butler, defensive line coach Larry Johnson and linebackers coach Ron Vanderlinden round out the Nittany Lions staff.

Penn State will start spring practice on March 26. The annual Blue-White spring game will be Saturday, April 21 in Beaver Stadium.

Bill O'Brien finalizes first staff at Penn State

As I said before, I am absolutely calm, so you can cut the condescending crap. your perception that PSU alums are unaware of the life outside State College is mind numbing. Thats the way you choose to see it and I don't really give a crap what you think. I have traveled all over the globe and am quite confident I am fully aware of the outside world. As for outdated legacy, isn't that a bit redundant?? A legacy by definition has to do with a person's history, so I am not sure how that can be outdate?

As for the guy that wants to replace the showers, exactly what is that supposed to prove. Replace a state of the art $10m dollar building with a new $15m dollar building. A monumental waste of resources which could better be used elsewhere. And for you two guys that are so convinced that PSU is just a bunch of myopic barbarians, are you aware that an annual dance marathon was held last weekend by the student body and heavily supported by alums which raised a record over $10 million for pediatric cancer research?  Sounds like a bunch of zombies just worried about football wins.

Penn State Administrators have already tried to put football wins ahead of societal norms. Penn State needs new facilities in the worst way. Without sounding creepy, what athlete or parent would want their son showering in the same stalls where criminal acts took place over a long period of time. The fact that the Penn State Administration has not remodeled the facilities tells you that they do not respect the incoming athletes enough to provide them with a "clean" shower area. It repulses me to think that these young men are subjected to a crime scene everyday after practice. PSU needs to start doing the right thing.

As far as finalizing a staff, who really cares. PSU has not been relevant in the national football picture since joining the Big10. They cannot compete against Michigan and Ohio State on a regular basis. Before the koolaid drinkers get their panties in a wad and calling me names, tell me when PSU was relevant. Every year, PSU plays a pansy out of conference schedule and with Indiana and Minnesota earmarked as easy victories, they only need to win one other game to become bowl eligible. Weak scheduling, weak administration, weak backbone. I believe the backlash from recruits will begin with the 2013 recruiting class, which also coincides with the full year recruiting efforts of Urban Meyers and second year phenom, Brady Hoke.

PSU had a window of opportunity to compete in the Big 10 and that window is now closed. Expect the NCAA to pounce on the program after they complete their investigation in the Sandusky fiasco. It is a shame that it has come to this, but it is, what it is. Get new locker facilities while trying to convince others you are relevant.

Come on CodyPrkr; it's still a long way to the Nittany Lion opener in September. Please calm down bro! Obviously, there are folks in the Happy Valley that care what myself or any other detractor of the cult that is Penn State football have to contribute to the sordid national story of Sandusky and his exploits. My dislike for PSU is the arrogance and absolute lack of recognition that there is life outside of the confines of Happy Valley and how you good folks will close ranks to protect Joe Pa and his outdated legacy. You PSU folks are nothing more than Eastern elitists with a West Virginia mentality. Bad combination!

No one is upset and everyone is aware of what PSU is up against. We are just recognizing what a complete moron beso is and how completely obsessed he is with penn state. You are no messenger, and I am sure your connections in Vegas run deep. They have enough returning talent to handle the 6 teams you mentioned and then some. Over under wins will be around 7 or 8. Their problems will come a year or two down the road when thin recruiting classes start to catch up with them. Take your messenger status elsewhere beso, your constant whining is almost comical and pathetic. No one here cares.

Why are all you good folks in Happy Valley so upset? A look @ the 2012 schedule shows 2 winnable contests vs. Ohio and Indiana and 3 toss-up games against Navy, Temple and Illinois. So yes; 4 wins is a realistic expectation for the coming season. The Lion faithful need to chill out, somehow get through the Sandusky trial circus and take your lumps for this season. Then; and only then, can you nice people begin to heal the wounds that university officials inflicted on State College. By the way; don't shoot the messenger. I'm simply telling you what I hear in Vegas.

From what I saw at the Vegas books it's 500-1 that dk13beso's reputation on this site will hit hit 50 within a month, but 1-9 that he will keep posting garbage on PSU articles.

Passing game coordinator? What the hell is that? At Penn State, that means have a wide receiver go 7 yards downfield and turn around. My Vegas sources have put the over/under win total for the Nittany Lions @ 4 for the upcoming season. However; if Sandusky is found not guilty, the win total will be reduced to 2 by the national outrage that would be directed @ Happy Valley for an acquittal.

I think we'll see a surprisingly stellar group coming in next year - just looking at the early interest - this could be one of those classes that is just dominant - lord knows we need it.  This coming year with the just-signed class will be quite average (until they recruit a solid QB that can handle going to class, it will be tough to win games), they can only ride Redd so far.

They shouldn't be too bad this season with enough talent returning to be competitive. However unless next year O'Brien puts together a stellar recruiting class, then combined with this years subpar group, they are bound for a few very lean years. No one will be able compete with that skunk and his poisonous nuts in columbus anyhow. They will be absolutely dominant for 5 years until he gets bored again and leaves for health reasons.
