In a move directly tied to West Virginia's arrival in the Big 12, the Mountaineers were forced to back out of a scheduled Sept. 8 contest with Florida State. The school paid Florida State a $500,000 cancellation fee but the total loss could end up being much more expensive, according to one school official.

"We'll probably lose $2.5 million in ticket sales," assistant athletic director Elliot Finebloom told ESPN.com. The school has been scrambling to replace West Virginia on the home schedule, a task that could end up costing Florida State an additional $1 million. Finebloom also explained the economic importance of keeping that date a home game on the schedule.

“Seven home games is something every business in town counts on, from hotels to restaurants,” Finebloom said. “People think it’s about the athletic department wanting to make more money, but we have a responsibility to area businesses who count on seven home games.”

The ACC regular season schedule had been released at this point in 2011, but Florida State's efforts to replace West Virginia are one of the "unusual circumstances" pushing back the release of the 2012 schedule.

The ACC issued a release late last week to explain the delay:

"As has been documented, there are a number of unusual circumstances beyond the control of the ACC and its member schools that have directly impacted a number of our school's nonconference schedules, which in turn effects the development and completion of the overall schedule."

According to Coley Harvey, of the Orlando Sentinel, the Seminoles have reached out to more than 50 schools to try and fill the date. As many as 31 of those have been FBS programs, reportedly including Boise State, Texas A&M, Syracuse, Rutgers, Wyoming, Arkansas, and Pittsburgh.

Yep, and we STILL wouldn't let you into our conference! Innocent
70-33...  Yeah, we can all see why you didn't want WVU.  I'm glad Pitt got Chryst.  He'll have Pitt righted and winning the ACC within 3 years.

Report: FSU to lose $2.5M from WVU cancellation

Why do some of you keep saying WVU isn't honoring their contract with FSU??  You do know that a buyout clause IS PART of that contract.  Right?  RIGHT?  No?  Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?  Seriously folks, go find some grey matter and stick it in your ear. a buyout is part of the contract.  If FSU didn't set the buyout high enough to cover their losses, then that's on them!  Either don't include a buyout in the contract, or set the amount to cover your expenses should the clause be utilized!  It's not brain surgery folks.

Im curious, did FSU's president vote yes when the ACC decided to expand?? If the answer is yes, then stop your whining FSU and find another team to play.

"Sorry ACC.  You raided the Big East twice, now you are complaining about what WVU had to do to survive?  Give me a break.
Enjoy Pitt and Cuse.  They will help you stay mediocre.

WVU vs. ACC Champ 70-33

WVU 3-0 in BCS bowls
 ACC 2-13 in BCS bowl"

Yep, and we STILL wouldn't let you into our conference! Innocent

Report: FSU to lose $2.5M from WVU cancellation

I suggest some of you tools actually looked at why WVU was suing the BE.  It's written in English, not law-talk - I know, I know, some of you can't read beyond a 5th grade level so have your mommy or daddy read it to you.

Hypocrisy?  WVU got what RR owed them.

The BE got what WVU owed them - minus what the BE owed WVU for final 4 and bowl appearances.

FSU got what WVU owed them.

Hypocrisy?  No.  Look up the word.

We may only be playing in Texas' sandbox for a few years until the next big realignment and we may lose more games in the Big 12 than when we were in the Big East, but we will be laughing all the way to the bank as we will me making a hell of a lot more money.

You want to bitch and complain about a program then visits the boards of Oregon, OSU, PSU, Tennessee, Auburn, UNC to name just a few.......bring up ethics and hypocrisy with them.

Gee, an idiot telling teeth and shoe jokes - how fresh.

Report: FSU to lose $2.5M from WVU cancellation

I'd just like to clarify, that in this situation, WVU is honoring it's contract. The Terms of the contract were/are that if one team wants to cancel, w/in 12 months from the date of the game, the team cancelling will pay the team being cancelled on X amount of dollars. And WVU has paid FSU that amount. So no amount of comparing this to Rich Rod leaving or even WVU suing the BE is valid.

This is all posturing. There will be no lawsuit against WVU by FSU for "liquidated damages." This is all crowing for the sake of CYA. To prepare fans for a lessor opponent and less exciting game.

Report: FSU to lose $2.5M from WVU cancellation

Hey WVUDIEHARD you can add TERES MINOR, NJRYAN and NEBBICK@WKU to your list of imbeciles along with BufurdIQ62.
Their jealousy of WVU is really tearing at them today. For all you WVU haters and naysayers that can't understand the reasons for WVU cancelling the FSU game. I guess its time to tell you the real reason WVU cancel the FSU game. The fact is that WVU found out that the game date was the same date of FSU Pet Alligator Frolicking & Screwing Orgy. And BufordIQ62 was going to be the quest host. And WVU didn't want the players or fans anywhere near that place.
