Barack Obama weighs in on the playoff issue

After being elected President in 2008, Barack Obama mentioned that he might use his power to push college football toward a playoff system. A little over three years later, here we are with a plus-one seemingly headed our way shortly, though you can't give the President credit for getting it done.

Though he is aware of the winds of change in the sport, as President Obama sat down for an interview on Bill Simmons' podcast, The B.S. Report, and the playoff subject was broached.
BS: Tell me about the college football playoff system that you once upon a time pushed for.

Obama: Looks like — I hear there’s talk that they’re going to at least start maybe with a four-team playoff, which —

BS: So you’re happy about this?

Obama: Well, I’d rather see it eight teams, but four is a good place to start. I think that gets us on the right trend. Nothing is more frustrating than at the end of the season, nobody knows who won. And what, there is some poll? Coaches make a decision? Nobody knows what that means. Because part of what makes sports great, part of what makes March Madness great, the NFL playoffs great, is every once in a while something happens during the playoffs that shows the character of a team.

Look at the Giants this year. Nobody would have picked them. They wouldn’t have been crowned as champions if you had a coaches' poll at the end of the year. But they made the plays when it counted.
Well, while the President might like to see the playoff at eight teams right now, not many others do. Which is fine with me. I've long been a proponent of college football having a playoff, and if the conferences are only willing to give me a four-team playoff, that's fine with me. I'll take what I can get.

Just get to work, Barry.

Get back to running up more deficits than all past presidents combined. Go back to moth-balling the space program. Go back to halting domestic drilling of oil and driving gas prices to their highest mark ever by Memorial Day. Go back to nationalizing the auto industry and eliminating private health insurance. Go back to sharing a beer with your Marxist professor buddy after demeaning a policeman only trying to protect that professor's property. The list goes on and on......

I could care less what Obama has to say about a college playoff system!! Fix the economy, find a way to get gas prices under control do what you were elected to do. Stay out of the sports world. I get enough of him in the regular news.

why doesnt mr big ears stick to things he knows somthing about---like food stamps, unemployment checks, benefits to all paid for by people with jobs, and figuring out where mrs big ears goes on her next taxpayer funded vacation.--leave the sports world alone--it is one of the few places your policies have ruined yet.

Good grief - talk about a lame story on a slow news day. SInce when is Obama any kind of authority on NCAA football?
Doesn't he have better thikgs to worry about withh his time, like figuring out how to slow down gas price escalation, job creation, basic stuff the country needs? Maybe we shuould ask Nick Saban what he thinks about the nuclear situation in Iran. Hmmm? Or let's ask Urban Meyer where he stands on the recession and housing markets. Stop filling pages with nonsense like this. I hate it when journalists report what politicians think about stuff like this. Total nonsense.

Does the President have the power to enact a change? If so, I would, for once, support him.

When it comes to the BCS, change is definently good.
