I was thinking about not doing this cuz of course the critics. Decided to do it anyways. Here is my AFC playoff predictions in which I will give a breakdown of each game in which why or why not they will win or lose that ball game.

AFC wildcard:
#5 Ravens vs #4 Chiefs-Chiefs ended their season with a loss to the Raiders. Their offense seemed like it couldn't get going vs the Ravens. Of course it can change on any given day. Not the momentum you want coming in vs the Ravens. I think Chiefs got a much tougher matchup than they wanted. Could have faced the New York Jets. Anyways I figure the Chiefs will be able to get the running game going, but mistakes by Matt Cassel will cost them in the end. Ed Reed will snag an INT in this ball game for sure. It will come down to their passing game in the end which again I don't think will win them the game. Figure the experience in the playoffs will be a factor in this ball game. Ravens are the favorite, but anything could happen. They will establish a running game and will make this a ball game. It will be closer than one would think. I say Ravens win 7-10 points.

#6 Jets vs #3 Colts-A team the Jets didn't want to see. Last year we all know what happened. I'm not gonna base my prediction on last year o. Jets have struggled thru their last half of the season. Going 9-2 and losing some games along the way to finally make the playoffs. I don't know if I would say the Jets are far more improved than they were last year. Record wise it shows, but their passing game still stinks, rushing game wasn't what it once was, yada yada yada. I don't think the Jets will rush that well vs the Colts even though they have a history of giving up huge yardage on the ground. Their rush defense has improved not giving up huge numbers to the Titans which is impressive. I think Manning will have a great day and have more than 3 passing TDs. Garcon will have an outstanding performance. Colts will win this ball game. Not big, but they will win by more than 10 points. Ends will be in Sanchez face all day, but I figure that their passing game will be the reason they stay competitive in the game.

AFC Divisional round:
#5 Ravens vs #1 Pats-Figure this will be a good game. It will go down to the very second. Unfortunately I figure the Pats will pull it out to go on to the AFC championship. Thanks to Joe Flacco passing game inconsistant. He will cost the team the game. Not really a lot of breakdown. Everyone knows what to expect. Ravens defense will keep it close. Rice will rush for over 100 yards. Flacco will have a chance to lead his team to victory, but loses in the end thanks to inconsistant play.

#3 Colts vs #2 Steelers-Figure Mendenhall will have a great day on the ground. Home field is always good to have. Figure Pittsburgh passing game won't be much of a factor cuz I figure Colts ends will be in Ben's face all day. It will be important for the offensive line to protect Ben, but I doubt they will which will lead to some short routes to convert on 3rd down.  Mendenhall and "RedZone will have a big day. That will be the focus for the Steelers offense. Peyton will throw some INTs in this game and their running game won't be there. Figure it will happen. Big win for Pittsburgh!

AFC Championship:

#2 Steelers vs #1 Patriots-Patriots will be at home and have everyone picking them. Last time around it was a lot different than it will be this time around. Steelers have a new kicker, they may have Aaron Smith, have more than 5 healthy offensive lineman to play the game, Steelers will have far more determination, Steelers are under the radar this time around, no one is picking them which is an advantage for the steelers as well. The list goes on! Fact is this will be a helluva game. Last time Patriots came in with a huge loss to the Ravens which brought out more determination and more of a reason to want to win the ball game. Figure the Steelers didn't take the game seriously enough. Which it is a regular season game of course. Playoffs is where the Steelers play the best. Number 1 defense in the league along with the kicker only missing one field goal since being signed after the Pats game. Impressive if you ask me. Steelers offense looks great. The factor in this game will be to put pressure on Tom Brady. That offensive line holds just as much as Rex Ryan holds his wife's feet. LOL! Maybe this time around the refs will be looking somewhere other than Brady's backside. The way the refs have been calling against the Steelers it finds it more realistic to believe this will be the game that will cost them cuz of the refs. It will happen. I hope Harrison is in Brady's face all game. Can't if a guys yanking on his jersey. If Steelers have Aaron Smith back they may be able to get that pressure on Brady. In any case I believe the Steelers offense will be fine vs the Pats defense. Pittsburgh wins if Brady is pressured which I have confidence that Steelers can get it done this time around. Steelers will go on to the Super Bowl to represent the AFC. 1st to 6.......on a stairway to 7. Surprised??SurprisedDon't be......STAY JEALOUS!!Cool

I cannot stand Steeler fans.
You think Steeler fans can stand Pat fans?

The Pats are a good team. Give them credit
They get enough credit from the media. The constant butt kissing of Brady and Bill is disgusting. I can hardly stand it.

Who have you guys beaten this year that shows a Super Bowl contender? No one
Ravens and Falcons. Didn't have much Super Bowl contenders on the schedule which doesn't really matter. All that matters is what happens in the playoffs.

You beat up on the bad teams and lose to quality teams.
Better to beat bad teams than to lost to them like the Patriots did. LOL! 2 losses to the Jets and the Ravens came down to the final seconds. Jets loss came down to the final play that could have went either way. Lucky the time ran out or Steelers could have had gotten the win. Ravens loss happened without Ben Roethlisberger and it went down to the final seconds. Not really much I can say other than that.

I cannot stand Steeler fans. You just said you have weaknesses, but you'll overcome them. But then Pats have weaknesses and Steelers will exploit them. The Pats are a good team. Give them credit. Who have you guys beaten this year that shows a Super Bowl contender? No one. You beat up on the bad teams and lose to quality teams.

But if you didn't know, the Pats are better than they were
Keisel out, James Harrison back injury, only 5 offensive lineman, kicker missing field goals, got a new kicker(acquistion happened after the Pats game), Aaron Smith may be back, and the list goes on.

Brady is better. Woodhead is getting more touches. Green-Ellis is on. Logan Mankins now has more games under his belt compared to the first game. Mayo leads the league in tackles. McCourty is a Pro Bowl Cornerback compared to the Rookie cornerback he was in the previous game.
Steelers have won all their games except for one on last play vs the Jets. Steelers have more 100 tacklers than any team in the league. Steelers lead the league in creating turnovers, getting sacks, ect. Running game looks great. Ben and Wallace combo has never been better. Polamalu is playing top par and will be healthy for the playoffs.

And overall, our team has a hell of a lot more confidence then they did in week 9
That is gonna hurt your team in the end I believe. Remember 2007 Pats? No one believed Giants would beat them in the Super Bowl, but they did. All the talk is about the Patriots. When that happens Patriots have not won the big one. Remember 2007. Look at 2009 as well. 2009 no one believed the Pats would lose to the Ravens on their home field, but they did. Perfect season definately didn't happen either. Steelers are far better when their backs are against the wall. When no one is talking about them or praising them. Remember earlier in the season when Ben was suspended for the first four games. People stated the reason they would miss the playoffs is because of those four games. No one believed they would be good thru that stretch and you know what......they went 3-1.

Also, when we won, it was in Heinz Field. That is a tough place to win at
That is why the Steelers have a far better record on the road than at home this season. All except for the Pats game the other 2 losses came down to the final seconds. Jets game came down to the final play. Could have went either way.

But the Pats haven't lost at home in almost 30 games! That's almost 4 seasons!
That is in the regular season. During the playoffs the Pats lost last year. Which means they are in -1 streak going in. If you add the loss in 2007 that wasn't at home, but the playoff streak for the Pats are -2. How do you like that?

Steelers fans give their team far too much credit for winning by 32 against the Browns, who weren't playing for anything.
Nah.....Steeler fans arn't giving the trophy to the Steelers just because of one single game. Steeler fans believe they can get it done. I am one of the few who believed they could get it done without Ben during the season. Browns victory was a confidence boost. The starters sit down in the 3rd. The score was 38-0 to end the half. Steelers beat the Browns 2x. Patriots lost to them this season. Congrats! Surprised??SurprisedDon't be........STAY JEALOUS!!Cool

Patsy, I remember some past games too, How about a Patriots team that had won 21 consecutive games and got manhandled by the Steelers. The Patriots were the better team that year too. I also remember a QB who led the league with low int % that threw 3 in the SB and costed the Steelers a SB. Like I said earlier the experts and the masses of unbiased fans have been wrong more often then not and the Pats being the better team has not panned out all that well for them lately. Last year being the home favorite against the Ravens still lost. Super Bowl XLII huge favorites, still lost. They play the game for a reason.

In 2005 the Steelers lost to the Bengals and were crushed by the Colts 26-7, but in the playoffs the Steelers beat both of them and then beat the Broncos in Denver in the AFC Championship game. I see the Steelers weaknesses, and I know they can't overcome all of them. I also see the Patriots weaknesses and I think the Steelers can exploit some of them. Also the Steelers have a better road record this year, and in 2005 became the first team to win all three road games and a Super Bowl.

Just for the record. This is why I think the Steelers will beat the Patriots.

As ATKOOL already said Aaron Smith should be back, but more importantly Brett Kiesel will also be playing. That means Evander Hood who has played very well will come in and spell them. Since Smith and Kiesel were both out the first time Nick Eason had to start. Eason is a huge drop off from either of the starters. How does this translate into success. First and obviously is run defense. The Patriots are one of only two teams to rush for over 75 yards against the Steelers (103 with a 4.3 yard average). The not so obvious is the pass rush. With the two starters back they will eat up more olinemen and allow the LB's Harrison and Woodley more room. The Steelers were unable to get to Brady all day last time, but this time will be different. The secondary is still the weak link, but I think tighter coverage and a better pass rush will cover up this weakness enough to make a difference.

On offense it is all about the passing game. Yes Ben did throw 3 TD's and 387 yards, but most of it was garbage after the Patriots had it in the bag. Ben like Tom Brady has not thrown an int for a long time this time no defensive TD for the Patriots. This time Ward will play the whole game, but that only helps a little. The real difference will be the connection that Ben has made with Sanders and Brown. Early on in the season Arians would not allow Ben to go to the hurryup, because of rookies Pouncey, Sanders, and Brown. Now he is comfotable with their knowledge to execute in the hurryup and will allow Ben to use it more freely. Steelers fans know Ben is more effective in this up tempo offense. The Patriots lack of experience could really show up here, note Patriots fans I said could so don't get upset. If the passing game clicks early on it should open up the running game. This time I doubt Tomlin forgets about Redman.

I see the offense and defense being more effective, but the Special teams will probably be worse than last time and that is cause for concern as is Brady and the 5 sacks the patriots got last time. All in all a much better game and as this homer sees it a win for the Steelers.

I would have rather had an unbiased fan picking this one. But if you didn't know, the Pats are better than they were. The week after the previous Pats-Steelers game, the Patriots had their last turnover besides that last week fumble. And overall, our team has a hell of a lot more confidence then they did in week 9. AFC playoff predictions 2010

Milly, how many people outside of New York predicted that the Patriots would lose to the Giants? Barely any. Did it happen? Yes it did. How many people outside of Arizona thought the Cardinals would make it to the Super Bowl in 2008? I guess since nobody saw it coming it didn't happen. How often are the pro analysts correct? Most pros had the Cowboys winning their division and a lot had them going to the SB, same with the Vikings. Neither team had 7 wins, what the Pros were wrong? Lots of fans on CBS were wrong?!!! No way!

The fact is your Patriots did lose to the Giants, the pros and evryone else were wrong. The Cardinals made it to the Super Bowl, The Cowboys sucked this year, The Bears won their division, the Bengals sucked this year and so on. This is not to say that means the Steelers will win, but in the last 10 years how many times did the odds on favorite at the beginning of the playoffs win the SB? Not many.
The 2003 Patriots the only team to win as odds on favorite, but how many times were they the favorite and lost?

I don't believe the Patriots were lucky or more motivated. I also don't think the Steelers are flying under the radar like in 2008. They have the second best odds of winning it all after the Patriots. Still I can see the Steelers beating the Patriots. Actually I can see the Ravens beating the Patriots as well. I also could see the Patriots, Falcons, or Saints winning it all as wel as the Steelers or Ravens.

If I had to pick a winner of the AFC it would be the Steelers, yes Milly I know I'm a homer who is not a Patriots fan.

AFC playoff predictions 2010

It's a fun blog when everything you hope will happen coincides with everything you predict will happen.  Delicious gumdrops fall from the sky like rain.  In truth, the Steelers in fact might beat the Patriots (assuming both advance that far).  I, a Patriots fan, recognize that all teams that make the playoffs are dangerous.  But I put no stock in analysis that cheers right along with the home team as they complete their perfect script.  When non-Steeler fans start predicting a Steelers SB appearance, I'll begin to take that analysis seriously.  Thus far, as I have been reading just about every AFC playoff post on this site, experts or fans, I don't know that I can find 5 posts that predict a Steelers SB other than from those fans that have Steeler players or logos next to their posts.  Yeah, every fan wants their team to do well and assumes they will.  Even the Seahawks fans on the Seattle sports blogging sites will feel that they can get to the SB if they just execute their game plan.

Critics........I agree with you to be honest. We all are hoping are favorite teams will win the super bowl. It is to no surprise. SI Peter King stated Steelers would win the Super Bowl this year. I'm not the only one.....LOL!

It couldn't be that the reason no one think the Steelers can win is that maybe they're just not as good.
I disagree. When the Steelers backs are against the wall they perform better. Earlier in the season people said they wouldn't make the playoffs cuz of a bad start without Roethlisberger. Steelers went 3-1 in those games. 1 play in the Jets game could have gotten Pittsburgh a victory. Could have went either way. Fact is they are 12-4 and I'm proud of their season. They have had a great one.

AFC playoff predictions 2010

This is the 2010 season. just so happens the playoffs are in 2011.
Last year the Champs were the Saints and they were named the 2009 Super Bowl champs cuz that was the season. Whoever wins this year will be named the 2010 Super Bowl champs. That is why I have 2010 not 2011 in the title.
