The carnage of this weekend will create an unprecedented circumstance in this week's ratings.  The top three teams will all be from one league.  The SEC West trio of LSU, Alabama and Arkansas will rest atop this week's rankings.

After that?  This week's projection much less predicitable.  The coaches still like Oklahoma St to some degree, and only dropped the Cowboys to sixth.  If the Harris folks vote along similar lines (and the projection is changed to reflect that), OSU should still be fourth overall, and viable as a national title contender.

The coaches were also generous with Oregon (ninth - top rated among two-loss teams) and Oklahoma (11th, behind the Ducks and Michigan State).

In the bowl projections, voters may consider Oklahoma State a viable option if the Cowboys beat Oklahoma and win the Big 12.  However, at the moment, they trail both Virginia Tech and Stanford in the polls.  I don't think it's likely OSU would catch Alabama if they have to jump both of those teams without them losing.  Therefore, a rematch between LSU and Alabama is the current projection.

I do have the Cowboys now winning that game and getting to the Fiesta Bowl.

The Sugar would be without an SEC team, so I have them plucking Michigan as an at-large to play Houston.  Stanford would automatically qualify as an at-large team for the second year in a row and end up in the Fiesta.

This afternoon, the University of Miami announced a self-imposed bowl ban in response to the NCAA investigation of the Nevin Shapiro scandal.  The bowl projections will be changed to reflect that decision.

Also, many are asking about Penn State falling out of the Big Ten bowls entirely.  Unfortunately, right now, the Nittany Lions are toxic to the bowls.  Maybe they will soften on PSU over the next couple of weeks.  Maybe one of the lower tier Big Ten bowls will take a flyer on them with the thought that they might never get another shot at Penn State.

Big Ten bowl rules stipulate that the Rose must take the champion and that the championship game loser cannot fall below the Gator in the selection order.  My projection does not have Penn State winning the division, so there would be no restriction preventing the Nits from falling all the way out, even with nine wins.

Screw you, Hogwild4ever, and screw your coach as well.  You can take your smug convincingly Arky arse back to your hillbilly state and take a rest while you watch those "overrated" Tigers win another national title.  Get ready for next year... you will have plenty of time to think about the arse-whooping we just gave you, maybe even enough to actually make the game competitive.  Circle your calendar, girlies.

Don't worry though, we will revenge ourselves in the BCS against Bama as well..RIP Garrett, this one's for you1

The SEC may be the best conference (though this year, I don't think so) but it's not because of 5-6 straight national championships.  Does that mean that when Miami was winning national championships, the Big East was the best conference?  You get to the NC game with an undefeated record, or a 1-loss record and a lot of hype.  If the SEC is so tough, we shouldn't be having so many zero and one-loss teams.

None of us have a Crystal Ball on the Crystal trophy, but:

A loss by LSU to Arkansas may be the very best thing that could happen for the Tigers.

LSU beating Alabama at home has to this point forced LSU on the path of having to play an extra game against a good team very close to their home (Georgia, at Atlanta), while Alabama sits on their duff already assured a slot in the BCS Title game.

If Arkansas beats LSU in a close game,  there is still a very high chance that LSU finishes among the top two in the final BCS standing, without having to actually play the game in Georgia.

Regarding some of the previous comments as it concerns the strength of the SEC.  i am constantly amazed at the folks who can't give the conference its due.  How does a conference CONSISTENTLY place 6,7, or even 8 teams in the national rankings; have the best out-of-conference win-loss percentage in the college football, win 42 consecutive National Championships, 3 Super Bowls, and currently have the top 3 teams in the nation.  But their over-rated?!??!?!?  Really?

SEC actually have 4 Super Bowls...but you are right about the 42 Consecutive National Championships and three top teams in the Nation.  If it were not a down year for SEC we would have the Top 6 teams in the nation.

Oh well it can't be GREAT every year!!!!

Northwestern would put up plenty of points on both LSU, Alababama, and Arkansas and they are just middle of the pack in the Big Ten.

now that is hilarious haha!!!

We have already proved that Boise beat 1st place Georgia so that proves that whole other half is terrible based on how the BCS and most college football fans see things.
now that was probably the dumbest thing ive ever heard, so because boise beat a young georgia team the first game of the season, that makes the other half of the SEC terrible??  wow you are dumb

The SEC has a couple of great teams but I just cannot crown a National Champion to either LSU or Alabama if they cannot score a TD when they play each other but their non conference opponents can.

oh, excuse me, THAT was the dumbest thing ive ever heard, good thing you arent the one responsible for crowning anything, so because there offenses couldnt score against 2 of the best defenses in the country, that makes them unqualified for the national championship??  even when LSU is the only undefeated team (other than houston) left in the country??  dude your justification resembles that of a 5-year old, so take off your hater glasses and realize how stupid you have made yourself sound

So if there is a rematch of LSU vs Alabama, does that make the game they played on November 5 meaningless?  So the loser of that so called "game of the century" gets to sit at home holding the upper hand in how all this plays out.  Meanwhile LSU has to risk everything by playing in the SECCG (risk of losing, risk of injuries, etc).  Something isn't right with that at all.

If Ark. upsets LSU and Bama wins against Aub., it would come down to H2H between the top 2 ranked teams in the BCS. Bama would prob. move to 1, and Ark. to 2. LSU 3. Bama goes with win against Ark. LSU left out. Bama win in SEC Championship, Bama vs. Ark. in title game and LSU in Captial One Bowl.
Yeah, it's something that the SEC should have fixed before a situation like this. Its tiebreaker is completely unfair because you can't break a three-team tie with one game, as everybody knows except Texas fans. The SEC should have adopted the Big 12's tiebreaker.

As a Alabama Fan I can see us playing a second time with LSU and by the way it was only defence to defence in the first game the second game won't be as non exciting as the first. If we can't win it the second time I'd be glad to be the the cherring team for any of the other teams to beat LSU if they can. ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!

If Penn State keeps playing well, the players all of a sudden become a feel good story.  Showing heart in the face of adversity.  I don't think they are as "toxic" as some of the national writers are making them out to be.  Plus the bowls aren't played until late December or early January.  By then, Penn State won't be the big national story.  Sadly America will turn their short attention spans back to the Kardashians and Golden Globe picks......
