BCS projections, Nov. 19, little movement

There shouldn't be very much movement in this week's BCS standings

Arkansas fell to tenth in the coaches' poll and ninth in the Harris poll.  The Hogs will still be pretty high overall this week, but outside the top five.

Alabama's lead over No. 3 Virginia Tech is 120 points - or more than two points per voter.  That means the Hokies are more like the fourth-rated team than the third-rated team.  Stanford is only two points behind Virginia Tech, and Oklahoma St is another 44 points back of that.  It's hard to imagine voters voting one of those three teams up suddenly next week.

The bowl projections have been updated.  Michigan is still slotted in the Sugar Bowl, although the Wolverines will need to get into the top 14 to qualify.  They project 16th this week.  The projections assume losses by Georgia and Oklahoma, and they should also pass whichever team loses the Big Ten title game.

One thing that baffles me is the notion that we will have an LSU-Alabama rematch for the BCS title no matter what happens next week.  That's silly.  There is no justification for rematching those teams if Georgia wins the SEC.  If there is going to be a rematch at that point, it should be Georgia-LSU, not Alabama-LSU.  Alabama would have won nothing.  Not the division, not the league, nothing.  I realize that is true even if LSU wins the SEC, but it's a lot easier to make the case that the Tide is the second best team in the league (and country) if only one team was more successful than them in conference play.

Bama would pound OSU. OSU will lose to OU anyway so you will not have an argument after next week.

I remember UT beating UGA pretty handily that year. UT was not in the title hunt that year like LSU is.

Alabama has not beaten ANYBODY! Thee beat Arky and lost to LSU, those are the only teams they have really played. OSU has played a much tougher schedule overall. The OSU body of work is far greater than bama's, period. Yes, they lost to ISU, but that was under extreme circumstances, and it took 2 overtimes to do it. Bama had their shot, they DO NOT deserve another.

You said it yourself, it's only a notion, not a rule. It's not their fault three top ten teams happen to be in the same conference and the same division. BCS is designed to get the two best teams for the championship regardless.

So LSU has to beat Bama twice to win the NC, but Bama only has to beat LSU once?

Yes, a couple of years ago LSU with two losses jumped from 5th in the BCS ranking to 2nd to play in the championship game. The argument against Georgia was that they didn't win the SEC championship so they shouldn't have been allowed in the title game. Well, what is the difference this year because Alabama isn't even going to play in the SEC championship game?

If Bama is the 2nd best team, then they need to be playing for the NC!!!  Why would anyone want to see #1 vs #3 or #4???  I want #1 VS. #2.  LSU squeked by Bama the first time, so I say lets see a rematch!!!!

Didnt Georgia get screwed the same way when they were ahead of Ohio St in the BCS rankings in 2007-2008? Georgia didnt win the confernce but should have played in the NC game against LSU and not Hawaii in sugar bowl.  Alabama is winning nothing as well and will get to play in the NC game. ...CRAZY!!!

Right on.  Scamabama would be the first to say if you don't win, much less play in your conference championship you don't belong in the conversation any other year.  Great team, but hasn't had the year necessary to make it...it happens, learn and grow.  There are others ranked 3 and 4 at least that should be given the shot ahead of them if dust settles in their favor.  Saban is just feeling sheepish and rallying a championship nod because they put that hideous statue up after he only won one championship.  He knows he hasn't earned that Bear Bryant status.
