With Kentucky close to entering SEC play on Saturday versus Georgia, the status of the elephant in the UK locker room is also about to be determined.  A source has confirmed that today is the day when Enes Kanter's final appeal will be heard by the NCAA.  The Turkish big man's saga has been a confusing one.  After initially being ruled permanently ineligible by the NCAA due to benefits he accepted while a member of a Turkish basketball club, Kanter's appeal was then delayed after the Cam Newton decision.  Kentucky went back to the NCAA, citing supposed "new information" and since the NCAA agreed to rehear the case, Kanter and UK have been in limbo.

Now, according to sources, Kanter will face the NCAA appeals board this afternoon, with a decision expected within the next 72 hours.  Because the Kanter situation has been deemed an "appeal", it is assumed that Kanter lost his rehearing with the NCAA, although no official ruling has been released.  The appeal this afternoon will likely represent the final stage of Kanter's eligibility determination by the NCAA, and one way or the other, Kentucky and Kanter should get closure on the process.  Many NBA scouts project Kanter to be a potential Top 5 pick in this year's NBA Draft, although his father has stated that if allowed to play next season, he will return to the University of Kentucky.

For the state of Kentucky, the "Free Enes" campaign has gone non-stop for over three months.  By next Monday, we will know if it worked.

Enes Kanter Situation Close to a Conclusion

Hoosier..If this was any place other than Kentucky, Enes Kanter would be playing right now..You know it as well as I...
The kid was 16 years of age, his father did all the money stuff, not Enes...but people like you , being a IU fan,(judging by your user name) loved a coach who hit, cussed, yelled and choked players, throws chairs, shoots people, and just a asshole... have a lot of room to talk about not giving someone a chance.

Enes Kanter Situation Close to a Conclusion

The NCAA should definitely consider him to be eligible. Think what this could do for college basketball! They could open the doors to ALL overseas pro and semi-pro teams overseas. The Russian olympic team could play for Kentucky. The campuses would be more diverse. The $$$ would roll in and the american kids could watch them play in the comfortable surrounds of their own living room.

NOTE TO BIZOTCHS:

Hey listen, buddy, you need to get what you know to the NCAA pronto. You've spent an entire post declaring UK a great big cheater. I'm sure the governing bodies of the NCAA would love--and probably need--to know where you got your information. This is a very important matter now, so please be forthcoming! All of college sports is depending on you! Thank God you shared!

Enes Kanter Situation Close to a Conclusion

I guess on Monday will find out 2 things:

    1) If the NCAA is blind to cheating is SEC college hoops as well as SEC football (see Cam Newton)
    2) If Kentucky fans really don't care that they are the biggest cheats in all of college basketball

Either way it really doesn't matter b/c you still aren't going to win a national title this year...sorry cheaters!

>>It is nice and funny that a UNC fan is mentioning cheating.  UNC is the master cheaters under Boy Williams, everyone knows it.  but if you think you know something about UK or Cal, then report it to the NCAA with a legal document.  If not then you should take your tar-heal and stay with the wimpy ACC folk.  UNC certainly won't win anything, even though they will try to win the NIT, again.

Enes Kanter Situation Close to a Conclusion

I think Kanter has a shot but I think Cal and his rep may hold him back.  This is just another questionable signing in a long string.  Not only that, Kanter has been ruled perm inelligeble.  If they allow the Kanter family to just pay the money back, Reggie Bush should pay back all the benefits he ever recieved and go get his Heisman back.

The two sticking points here are that Kanter accepted the money and that the NCAA ruled him perm inelligeble.  The NCAA is really on the teetering point already.  I seriously doubt that they are going to allow a player to accept benefits over the rules just because "he didnt know better" or because he will pay it back, or that he has said if he is allowed to play he will come back to UK next year.  The last one is just a ploy IMO to make people think that he really didnt have interest in going pro.  Cal probably told him to say it.  After all. the guy is a better marketing person than  a basketball coach.

Kanter has a shot because you really have no idea what they are going to do these days.  I dont care how good this kid is,  I would be sick of having my season hanging on the edge all the time but such is life when Calpal is your coach.

Enes Kanter Situation Close to a Conclusion

IF THEY LET OHIO ST. IDIOTS PLAY IN THERE BOWL GAME THEN NEWTON AND KANTER SHOULD BE ELIGIBLE. BUT THE NCAA COULD NOT AFFORD TO HAVE OHIO ST. KIDS NOT PLAY IN THE BOWL GAME TO MUCH MONEY WOULD HAVE BEEN LOST. I GUESS ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY OR NEWTON WOULD NOT BE PLAYING IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. MONEY IS THE RUDE OF ALL EVILS.
