2012 recruit decommits from Louisville

There continues to be a great deal of turnover around the Louisville basketball program and it is now clearly having an effect on the Cardinals' recruits as well. Today, 2012 small forward commitment Negus Webster-Chan announced he was decommitting from Louisville and would reopen his decision process.  The small forward is universally ranked in the Top 50 in the Class of 2012 and has been rising in some analysts' eyes due to his explosive athleticism.

He said today that the staff changes at Louisville had made him uncomfortable with it as his final destination:

“I just didn’t feel comfortable with all of the changes at Louisville. I had a great relationship with Coach [Mark] Lieberman and with his new role [as Director of Basketball Operations], I just didn’t feel like it was the best fit for me. I appreciate all of the Louisville fans that have showed their support for me and hope they understand."

Since the end of the regular season, Rick Pitino has seen all three of his assistant coaches change, with Steve Masiello leaving to take the head coach position at Manhattan, Tim Fuller leaving to be an assistant at Missouri and Mark Leiberman being reassigned to Director of Basketball Operations. Pitino has filled one of those vacancies with his son Richard Pitino, but the rest of the staff is still up in the air.

Since those changes were announced, Wake Forest transfer Tony Woods has been rumored to be reconsidering his commitment to Louisville and top 2011 recruit Kevin Ware has chosen Central Florida as his future college destination instead of Louisville. Pitino is scrambling to put a staff in place and most importantly, keep the commitment of top 10 point guard Rodney Purvis. The five star 2012 recruit was brought in by Fuller and keeping him from departing the Cardinal family could be the difference in a small loss of players turning into an all-out flood of change.

2012 recruit decommits from Louisville

And now it's official.  Richard Pitino is an assistant at U of L.

I still contend that his statement isn't entirely inaccurate, just premature.

You are right Matt does not like U of L or Pitino and there is a slant as a result.  However, he's not working for CBS to cover Louisville but rather blogging.  So, he can write about any or all things college basketball under the cover that a good part of what he writes will be opinion based.

You're getting a little taste of what it is like to be a UK fan when there are several columnists for major news organizations and sports news organizations who hate the program and coach separately and even moreso together.  Shepard Smith at the Fox News Channel, who doesn't even cover sports at all, has taken several occasions to take cheap shots at Calipari.  Pat Forde hates Calipari and it slants every single story or blurb he writes about the Cats.  At least everyone knows where Matt Jones stands and he doesn't try to hide it and pretend to be an unbiased "journalist" like Forde and some others.  When a Card fan sees his name, they should (at least I would) keep moving.

If you believe that because it is a blog post then the author shouldn't try to be as accurate as it can be, then I disagree. As long as CBS is going to link the post up at the frontpage of basketball, they should take better care to ensure articles are accurate. Nothing more, nothing less.
It, frankly, was a minor point. My broader point was, and still is, Matt Jones is a UK homer. I'd rather not read his take on anything to do with Louisville. In his posts on his own site he has never tried to hide the fact that he doesn't like Pitino (anymore) or the Louisville program. Thus, its hard not to imagine that this would bleed into his writing in general.

It seemed to me you tried to insinuate that because there hasn't been an announcement regarding Richard Pitino that Matt Jones was printing falsehoods about his eminent hiring at Louisville and therefore cannot be a reliable source for any news concerning U of L.  The fact is that Rick Pitino himself was interviewed by a local radio station and talked about how glad he is to have Richard back with him at Louisville.  Is Rick Pitino a good enough source for you?  The truth is there is no real distinction as an announcement is only a formality at this time. You are quick to point out what you perceive to be or what you would like to project as a discrepancy because of your dislike for Matt Jones and that's fine.  Now, you point to the Tim Fuller dateline as your example and say it should be more than a minor point to CBS because they are a news provider.  However, surely you noticed that Matt's article appeared in the blog section of the site, right?  Is he taking a liberty by speaking of the Richard Pitino rehire in the past tense?  Yes.  He's taking the same liberty that Rick Pitino took several days ago on the radio.  Your point was much ado about nothing and you know it.

The deal with it comments had to do with the other item in Matt's article regarding a Card decommit.  It seemed to me that your Richard Pitino angle was done in order to dismiss everything in the article; most of which was bad news for U of L basketball.

I apologize if I made it sound like you took shots at UK and if I was mistaken in including you among those who did.  I talk to a lot of Cardinal fans and most of them like nothing more than to take shots at UK constantly

- "Matt Jones is an idiot. Plain and simple. Has he ever not made an article either dissing UL or praising UK?"

So the indication of an idiot is someone who likes his own team and doesn't like his arch rival? Or is it just someone that can't say good things about his own team without bashing the opponent? If either of these are your definition of an idiot I think you've got a lot of card fans pissed at you for calling them idiots!

What makes it "bad" news?  The fact that another Pitino assistant got hired as a head coach?  The fact that an assistant decided to leave to work for his mentor?  The fact that Louisville has too many players on scholarships so a few players are choosing to take their talent's elsewhere?  You can look at this through whatever color goggles you want and Matt Jones choose to look at it through the blue colored ones.  It's his blog, it's his prerogative.  I don't see it that way as I am a fan of the the other team.  I can argue the other side all day.

And yes, my broader point, is that I'd rather read articles that discuss UofL that are written by someone without a rather obvious disliking of UofL. You have chosen to (I assume) defend the author by indicating I am trying to dismiss the "bad" news. That's your perogative, but I hope you are savvy enough to realize that no where in my post did I take any shots of UK, only at a blatant UK supporter (Jones, if that isn't obvious by now).
I couldn't have said it better myself.

Where, exactly, have my comments been bitter, jealous, distasteful,  mouthy, not factual, full of crap, ridiculous, unTRUTHful, hypocritical, fearful, distracting, etc?

What are you talking about? Deal with what? The article (blog post) on this site indicates Richard Pitino has been hired. That's untrue (or Jones is the only repoerter privy to this info). Has there been talk about this happening? Yes, see your link or any of theother countless blurbs about the likelihood of this happening. Has he been hired? No. If Jones wants to update his article indicating that Richard is likely to be hired then he can do that, but right now, it says he's been hired. In your words "truth is truth" (I refrained from all capping the first truth). I'm not sure what is difficult about seeing the distinction, especially when the discrepancy is an article linked to the bball homepage on cbssports.com
For example, if there was an article on April 12th saying Frank Haith had hired Tim Fuller (which actually was announced the 13th), then that article would be inaccurate. Not because the speculation was true, but because the article said he had been hired. When that had not officially happened. It's a minor point to most, but for a news provider, it should be a big deal. Is this distinction still lost on you?

And yes, my broader point, is that I'd rather read articles that discuss UofL that are written by someone without a rather obvious disliking of UofL. You have chosen to (I assume) defend the author by indicating I am trying to dismiss the "bad" news. Thanks for your input though.

It's funny how the card fans are mouthy until they get challenged about their facts. Then they act like the basketball team, drop out after the first round!
