Memphis - Louisville rivalry set to resume

When Louisville left Conference USA for the Big East in 2005, the Cardinals' rivalry with Memphiswas collateral damage. The last time the two programs met was in the 2005 C-USA championship game. The battle for the auto-bid was a real barn-burner (as seen in the video at top) that left Memphis fans wanting more. Looks like they'll get their wish, according to the Memphis Commercial-Appeal.

Though a few details are still to be worked out, Memphis is expected to begin a home-and-home series with Louisville next season at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville. The teams will then play in FedExForum in 2012-13.

“Obviously it’s not official until every formality is finished,” Pastner said. “I’ve had more fans since I’ve gotten the job come to me and say, ‘Coach, can we play a game against Louisville? Can we get a series going against Louisville?’

“So this is sort of an opportunity to give back to the fans since they’ve kept us in the top 10 in attendance; to start a series that means so much to Tiger Nation.”

The two teams have matched up often throughout the years, even as they leapt conferences from the Missouri Valley to Conference USA. Per the blog Card Chronicle, Louisville owns a 51-34 edge in the series to date. With both teams expected to challenge for NCAA tournament berths in upcoming seasons, this is a perfect time to revive the rivalry.

Memphis - Louisville rivalry set to resume

Give me a break dude.  All UK fans hang their hats on the great 7 titles they won (5 of which came before the field of 64 was created).  So don't say a darn thing about anyone going back 5-10 years.

Fairweather UK fans make me sick, you guys sucked out loud before the 2009-2010 year for many years and now all of a sudden you puff your chest out like your Duke or UNC.  Give me a break!

And was also the #1 overall seed in the tourney in 2009 while your wildcats were a #4 seed in the NIT!

Nug,that was on of the most lame excuses for a reply.

Who gives a damn what happened in 2009 or 2005,2000,etc.

Any one can pick out a year favorable to their team.

Lets just focus on the most current year that we have the results.

UL knocked out at the start of the tournament. To a top 25 team???  Hell no!!!  UK to the final 4.  Damn I wonder which team had the most success.

If you can't bring anything to the table any better than that, go out and play in the street.  Sheesh.

Memphis - Louisville rivalry set to resume

I rememeber one time when Denny Crum was asked about playing Memphis State, he said "the last time I checked, Memphis wasnt a state."  As a fan of Louisville, I am glad this rivalry is being renewed...It should be great

That reminds me of the story when Pitino was asked about playing Morehead State, he said"the last time I checked, Morehead wasn't a state".  Evidently it wasn't a state but it sure as hell was a basketball team he will never forget.  Oh what was the score in that game???  I forgot.  Refresh my memory.

Memphis - Louisville rivalry set to resume

Hey ukfan68,
Where you born in the last few years?  Or did you just become a UK fan after they dumped Tubby, flopped with Gilispie and hired the cheater?  UL won the Big East regular season and conference tourney title in 2009 and they were in the tourney title game again this year, losing to UConn, the team who beat big blue in the final four.  But Im sure you knew that already.  Thats what I love about UK fans, their attention to detail.

Three things i hate in sports:

1) UL
2) UL fans
3) Pitino

And by the grace of God, Pastner will continue what Calipari started and own UL which works even better. Especially when i know UL will never win their conference title much less a national title unless they go back to division II where they belong with the rest of the commuter schools out there.

Memphis - Louisville rivalry set to resume

Nothing like those saturday morning conference championship games. The kind where if the home team isnt playing, all the fans can move down to the lower level to watch.

Three things i hate in sports:

1) UK
2) Memphis St
3) Calipari

By the grace of God, Calipari has coached at both. Works out nicely. Especially when i know vacated banners are on the way.
