Memphis, Louisville renew rivalry

The rivalries between college basketball powers in Kentucky and Tennessee are some of the best in the country.

Beginning next year, Memphis and Louisville will continue the contempt between colleges in the area, with the two schools renewing their series as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Shootout. It will be a two-year series – televised on CBS Sports – with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.

The first game will take place at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, with Memphis hosting the return game in 2012-13.

“Memphis and Louisville have a storied rivalry and a long tradition of competitive games,” Louisville head coach Rick Pitino said in a release. “We’re excited to have them back on our schedule.”

“Since I got this job two years ago, our fans have talked to be on numerous occasions about the Memphis-Louisville rivalry, and how much they want to renew the series,” Memphis head coach Josh Pastner added. “This is a great rivalry not only for the schools and their fans, but it’s also one of college basketball’s top rivalries.”

Memphis and Louisville have faced each other 85 times, but not since 2005, when they were both in Conference-USA. Next season, each team will likely be a top-20 preseason squad.

Memphis, Louisville renew rivalry

Well, UK fans seem to love their Revolutionary War titles, so I don't see why we can't celebrate ours.  Rockin' avatar by the way.

Memphis, Louisville renew rivalry

Hahaha.  Speaking of the Civil War isn't that the same ere Louisville won it's titles?  Nobody cares nor remembers them.  Maybe you should thump your chest over that one final four from way back when Louisville was in CUSA?  That's a little more relevant.  Besides we both know that Memphis would have two National titles if it weren't for John Wooden being a cheater and Cal being a choker.  You better get ready Ville!  We're coming to the Chicken Bone Bucket and we're gonna fry up some dirty birds!  Finger licken good boa!

We've got Tiger blood and Adonis DNA...Go Tigers!

Why would Louisville duck a JUCO team ?

I will tell you what Memphis State has and that is ZERO titles and 2 tarnished/stripped Final Fours in your history ...

A college football stadium that was built in the Civil War era..

And a Univerisity that NO ONE besides C-USA wants in their conference ...

Memphis State could have 15 Adonis's, Joe Jackson's and 1000 pair of head bands and still be the red headed step child of the NCAA

Glad to hear that Pitino is no longer ducking the Tigers...i guess he thinks since Calipari is gone, he'll have a chance against the Tigers with Pastner.

But i've got news for 'Quick Rick'...these Tigers are gonna tear up those silly red birds.
