Bob Knight will finally be honored by his alma mater.

Knight’s son, Pat, told CBSSports.com that Ohio State will honor his father when Lamar plays in Columbus on Dec. 20.

My dad’s excited about it,” Pat Knight told CBSSports.com.

Pat Knight was the head coach at Texas Tech for the past three-plus seasons, taking over in the middle of the 2008 season after his father retired. The younger Knight was fired after last season, but wound up getting the job at Lamar in the Southland Conference.

Knight said that the previous staff had already scheduled road games at Kentucky and Louisville. He needed another “buy” game and asked the current players at Lamar what team they wanted to play.

They agreed on Ohio State, which also happened to be the program that Bob Knight played for from 1959-62. Knight was a reserve on the 1960 national championship team.

Pat Knight then called the Buckeyes, who agreed to the game – and also recommended honoring his father either prior to or at halftime of the game.

``They’d been trying to get him back up for a basketball or football game, but it just hasn’t happened,” Pat Knight said. ``So this will be fun, for him to go back and them to honor him.”

Bob Knight set to be honored by alma mater

Funny how an OSU is bringing up the Chris Webber era when it happened 20 years ago.  Does that mean that Michigan fans get to talk about Terrelle Pryor and Jim Tressel for the next twenty years as if it happened yesterday?  While Michigan cheated for four years, THE Ohio State University has been cheating for the entire Tressel era.  They have strippers calling themselves "hostesses," "tutors" who take tests for "student-athletes," free cars, golden handshakes, free tats, drugs and malt liquor at the local tattoo parlor, and they even have gamblers teaching their basketball team how to shave points.

The Ohio State University has the dirtiest program in college football and the dirtiest program in college basketball, and are about to suffer at least a tenth of the consequences they deserve.  I wonder if Earle Bruce and Art Schichter can take that to the racetrack and bet it as a "perfecta?"

Bob Knight set to be honored by alma mater

Not only is Bob Knight an OSU alumnus, but he grew up in Orrville, Ohio.  Played in the same league as my high school.  Us Buckeyes have always been proud of Knight.  He built a dynasty at IU.  Before Knight, their program was mediocre.  And Knight played off the bench with Havlicek, Siegfried and our national championship team.

Great coach and he deserves any honor bestowed on him! Funny that a Michigan man is dissing Ohio State when they had the Webber gang on the take for years.

I didn't know Knight's alma mater was OSU. Call it an oversite, an omission, or just lack of knowledge about Knight, but am dumbfounded by finding this out. I assumed all along he was Indiana alumni. My Bad. But man doesn't it fit. Knight is a Criminal U alumi and he fits that mold so well with the type players and individuals OCU (Ohio Criminal University) produces.

Time for IU to do the same. Has been long enough and enough water under the bridge. Coach Knight may not show up, but the school ought to do something to honor all his accomplishments @ IU. Someone has to make the 1st move.
