By Matt Norlander

The Big East intra-conference schedule was released yesterday. Here's what Rick Pitino had to say about it:

"We have one of the premier commissioners in athletics, but whoever's doing our scheduling must be doing it with a Ouija board. How can you play two of the top three (projected) teams in the league twice and have to play another top team that's a rival game (at Cincinnati) on the road for a second straight year? It just doesn't make any sense to me. West Virginia has a similar argument. They must be doing it with a Ouija board."

OK, that was in Louisville's press release. Crafted by the school and looked over by a few people before it was shot out to the public. And that's the quote Pitino chose to supply and the school was cool going with.

All I can say is ... awesome.

If that was the quote that was allowed, then Pitino must be really pissed. Without the filter of Louisville's athletic department offices, who knows what sort of disgust Pitino would have spit had a reporter got him one-on-one. By the way, here's Louisville's schedule: home games against Connecticut, DePaul, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, USF, Syracuse and Villanova; on the road versus Cincinnati, DePaul, Marquette, Pittsburgh, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall, Syracuse and West Virginia.

Yeah, it's tough, but not the toughest. Look at that link, and you'll see other schools who have harder 18-gamers within the conference. And, to channel Dan Hawkins, it's the Big East! Tough games are coming, and the better you are and more high-profile you are, the more rigorous the schedule, generally, because TV dictates a lot of what goes on here. Pitino and Louisville are big sells. He knows that.

This is his only way of fighting back. Let's wait and see what the non-conference schedule looks like for Louisville, when the school releases it in a few weeks. If it's loaded, we'll know why Pitino's got his britches in a bunch. If it's weak, then this is nothing more than whining.

Well you know if Rick Pitino says it's that way then by Gawd it's that way.....So Rickys got his britches in a bunch and want's to cancel a few more OOC games is that what it boils down too. Afterall the Big East is the Big East and everyone knows that it's not media driven and all hype so maybe he'll cancel the Kentucky game next since he allowed the Memphis~UL rivalry to resume now that Calipari isn't there.

Maybe he thinks UL needs a few more tune up games against teams like EKU and Georgetown(KY) or Middle Tennessee Tech and Sister Marys school for the blind and mentally retarded before he get's into conference play next season.

Sounds like Ricky's got a plan. LMAO!!!! Wink

I want to make sure I'm reading this correct. Louisville is playing DePaul twice and Rick is complaining about the schedule being too tough?

Pitino believes his Big East schedule is unfair

Remember when Denny would scheule all the tough opponents every year and Lousiville would be battle tested for tourney time, well teh BE allows a coach to do that without out of conference games, but I love playing the out of conferecne games, love see how you stack up vs hte rest of the country.  Thats why this is potentially going to be one of themost fun UL seaons.

Not only are we playing Syr and Pitt twice but we get road games at WV, Marq and selfishly for me, St. Jonh's (I live in BK); but we are also going to tangle wiht UK again (in Rupp, never easy to win there), renew our rivalry with Memphis, play Vandy and year 2 v Butler (road).  I am excietd to see how we do with this schedule.

RP has consistently scheduled cupcakes out of conference so we can have a break from the BE, but I would rather play a schedule like Mich St. and lose a coupe easry so we know who we are come tourney time.

If this team is good, we will win vs the good teams, if theya re not they will lose and if they lose and get better then we will enjoy March a lot more.

Its the BE, its gonna be tough, just grin an bear it, in my mind isn't it sending the worong message to your kids by making excuses before the seasons even starts, what would have been better in my mind, would have been Pitino saying,

"Not sure how the BE comes up with their schedule, but I know that my team will be ready for whatever comes my way, I am just glad I have the time now to try and figure out how to use the players best in eachg situation, so that we can put out bst foot forward vs every team we have to face."

You'll be on probation soon so it won't matter.

Calipari may or may not cheat but he always seems to hang out with people who do (Camby, Rose).

That is why the 2 Final Fours before UK were vacated.

What the hell are you talking about? 19-0

We didn't have a healthy PF for most of the season and lost to Drexel at home before UK?

We did beat UCONN 2 out of 3. You remember them don't ya? The team that sent you home from Hawaii and from the Final Four with losses.

I thought so!

Syracuse should complain. They have to play Louisville twice and it has not went well for them. 7 losses in a row?
