2011 recruiting trip: Of course Wes is here

AKRON, Ohio -- The NCAA sends representatives to monitor various July events, and because the LeBron James Skills Academy is the event with the best prospects and most high-profile coaches, there are two members of the Basketball Focus Group at the University of Akron.

More on Recruiting
They're here to make sure the coaches stay where they're supposed to stay and the prospects stay where they're supposed to stay, and they do a fine job of it. But here's the issue: They can't quite figure out what to do with William Wesley -- the man more commonly known as "Worldwide Wes" -- who basically has the run of the place.

Wesley is a longtime and well-documented power-broker who now works with Creative Arts Agency (CAA). And even though people associated with agents are supposed to be nowhere close to players at an event like this, Wesley has spent the better part of tonight sitting in a chair on the court around Kentucky freshmen Anthony Davis and Michael Gilchrist, and within talking and bumping distance of every high-school prospect in attendance.

Nike officials allow it to happen.

So it happens.

And Wesley must know just how much it agitates the NCAA. For proof, consider that I was standing with the two NCAA officials earlier tonight, just talking and catching up when we were suddenly interrupted by a young man who tapped one of the NCAA officials on the shoulder.

"Excuse me," the young man said. "Wes wanted me to tell you hello."

On one hand, troubling.

On the other, absolutely hilarious.

Jealousy just pours out your mouth and ears. When you can't compete with Cal you accuse, get a life!
Calipari is Elvis and the Pope all in one package!

Every questioning comment here is from a UK fan.  Shocker.  The very same fans who hated WWW and Slimy Cal when he was in Memphis.  The NCAA has to shed college ball of runners like Wes and sleazebags like Calipari.  Enough is enough.

Only a U of L fan would call Calapari a slimebag........when your own coach banged a skank in his restaurant and paid for her abortion.  Only a U of L fan... You guys are the scum of the earth.

2011 recruiting trip: Of course Wes is here

Parrish made a new blog entry today regarding the shoe company and tournament organizer influence (in talking with Izzo.) That's where the real influence is, and Wes has been a part of it no doubt. There are a lot of things 'broken" with summer leagues and amateur athletics at large. It's a well-worn cliche' but don't hate the player, hate the game.

Gary also knew that by posting a story about Wes (and indirectly about Kentucky in referring to Davis and Gilchrist) that it would get more hits than any story on his entire recruiting trip. Sports blogs in general don't do very well - so to stand out from the rest they periodically go to the lightning rod: Calipari and anything connected to him.

There is no story with Wes and the UK players. They are already on the roster folks. Davis will be a #1 lottery pick next summer. No need for any "agent" influence.

Here is a preview of the next big story from Parrish in late July/early August: NBA Players Converge on UK Campus During NBA Lockout. If people are hating now, just wait until half the NBA is on campus playing pickup games and working out in the Craft Center. Only those that are enrolled as students (and agree to be student assistants,) to be clear, can actually play with UK players, but the rest are invited to use the facilities until the lockout ends. Perfectly within the rules now, and UNC, Duke, Kansas, and anyone else can do the same thing. The difference is that UK will be the center of media attention and branded as gaining an unfair advantage.

Careful GP, in response to your articles on "friends of the program" Coach Cal will form the Triumvirate +1.  Et tu, Gary?

And you have a problem with this, why? Why, because black kids are getting to the NBA because NIKE is signing black kids to million dollar deals? Or is it because you never played sports only read about them and cheered because you couldnt play so now you just hate.  NO where in that article does it say the Wes works for Cal all that article proves is that Wes knows how to get in where he fits in and knows a lot of people in the sports world and again how can that be bad?  If you know a doctor, lawyer or dentist and you recommend a family member a co worker or a girlfriend to them thats a crime? Wes is a connector Wes knows Cal isnt going to lie, use, mislead or hold back players like so many of these weak d-1 coaches that you probably root for.  Kids want to play in the NBA and wear NIKES thats simply how it is.  So if you want to hate get your facts straight.

Wes has relationships with Coach K and Bill Self.  Its easy to try to put Cal in the mix bc you want him to be dirty so bad because you are simply a hater.  How could coaches that are getting young men young black men to the NBA be a so bad?  Show me one PLAYER who has ever said, "Coach Cal did me wrong."  The media might say Cal is bad and fans of every other school that he doesnt coach for may say he is bad but poll his players, their families and the comminities where Cal has coached and see what they have to say, HATERS?

World Wide Wes and Calipari give college basketball a black eye. The NCAA needs ban them for life. Cal has already put two schools on probation. Just a matter of time before UK is his third.

Why would WWW getting Michael Jordan on the phone help UK?  It would 100% hurt us as he'd never want a recruit to come to UK.   If any school should get crucified by this article, it should be UNC since Jordan would steer as many players there as humanely possible.  But no, let's spin it to UK.  Gotta love the blind hate.  That hate meter will go through the roof this year when UK has it's best Calipari team yet !!  You gotta get a T.O., Baby !!!!!!
