Rick Stansbury dismissed D.J. Gardner from the Mississippi State basketball team on Friday. The development came a day after Stansbury announced the heralded freshman would redshirt, and less than 15 hours after Gardner publicly expressed his displeasure with the coaching staff via Twitter.

"These b***es tried to f**k me over," Gardner Tweeted late Thursday, according to a screen shot grabbed by the Clarion-Ledger's Brandon Marcello. "That’s y I red shirted .. But I wish my homies a great as* season.. I don’t even know y I’m still here"

Gardner is an in-state product who averaged 32 points and 10 rebounds as a high school senior.

He chose Mississippi State over Memphis.

Forget the redshirt idea – he is dismissed – as in "Hasta la vista, baby, don't let the door hit you ...

Since legal practices have not yet begun, why has the decision already been made to redshirt the kid.  There must be more involved here than is being published.

I'm getting the distinct impression that Rick Stansbury does not have the level of control over his program that a solid coach ought to. Between the Renardo Sidney saga and this, Coach Stansbury doesn't appear to have "character" as a major factor in the players he recruits. Aside from character issues, has MSU been relevant in basketball lately? Not since Lawrence Roberts took MSU to an SEC title back in the mid-2000s.

Just another high school "star" who thinks the world revolves around him.  I'd love to see his grade point average. :-)

I am too ringing the same sentiment as many others. You do have the Freedom in this country to say almost anything you want to say, but that doesn't make what you say right. You can say dumb a__ things that will get you in trouble. This is a punk kid who has probably always gotten away with acting like a thug and thought he could continue to act that way. Well, you guessed wrong. And like the earlier moron said, I too believe the kid will probably try to file a suit against the school, because their are just as scummy lawyers out there that will take this case, but there was no violation of the kid's rights. He said what he wanted and no one stopped him. He can continue to spout off his idiotic mouth. Just not at Miss State. Now go back home and tell your homies what a big man you are for standing up to that coach. Make sure to leave out the part about ruining the best chance you have at making your mark in this world you idiot.

To piggyback off of many others... He excercised his Freedom of Speech, and the coach excercised his Freedom of Authority. Just because you "can" say anything you want doesn't mean there aren't reprocussions. This is a fool who apparently felt entitled.

Whomever made the Freedom of Speech statement is a Moron. This has nothing to do with FOS. It's a right-to-work, right-to-fire country. If I call out my boss, I know I'm going to be fired. A student-athlete should have common sense to know his fate will meet the same if he does so. Guess that free education meant NOTHING. Get lost Punk. Go back to the playground. No one will touch you now at any organized level. Well, maybe Miami or Ohio State, but no respectable school.

Gardner is not being deprived his "Freedom of Speech". He can Tweet all he wants. He can make a speech on National TV. But if he has a bad attitude detrimental to the team, Stansbury has every right to give him the boot.

If you own a business and your employee is saying bad things about your company and calls you a b****, are you going to let that person hang around? Think before you type.
