Baylor is desperate and right at the same time

Texas A&M's move from the Big 12 to the SEC is on hold until the SEC gets assurances that no Big 12 school will sue because, suddenly, at least one Big 12 school -- specifically Baylor -- is threatening to do exactly that. My question: Why would Baylor give such an assurance?

Baylor seems, at this moment, to have one foot in Conference USA and the other on something slippery as the college landscape shifts, and if that's the case isn't it only responsible for Baylor to try to scare the Big 12 into staying together by any means necessary? I have no idea if Baylor could win such a lawsuit against the SEC, commissioner Mike Slive and/or Texas A&M because I'm not a lawyer. But what I do know is that, in this country, you can threaten to sue pretty much anybody for pretty much anything, and if the SEC and A&M want that possibility off the table before moving forward then Baylor ought to make the SEC and A&M give something in return.

What something?

Could be anything, including straight-cash homey.

But it would be foolish to take the threat of a lawsuit off the table just because the SEC asks.

So good for Baylor for standing up.

Ultimately, the school's actions will probably only stall the inevitable.

But desperate shots are worth taking when you find yourself in desperate times.

I hope you like the ACC. Because when conferencegeddon unfolds there will be an ACC/Big East merger.

I just find it funny the blame UT recieves for everything.  In the 80's and 90's A&M was the top dog in Texas, UT could not even sell out their stadium.  Now their program has been turned around and whether people want to hate or not has put out a pretty good product on the field and financially.  When the worm turned it happened to be in a time when technology was able to support something like the Longhorn Network, and when it was couched to ESPN and given a dollar value, UT took it.

If other universities had this opportunity (which some will in the near future) I would like to see them for the greater good of other schools turn it down......  That won't happen.  Texas was willing to start this with A&M which was declined, and Texas gets called arrogant for starting, I think it just pissed off UT and furthered their desire to make it work on its own.

Is UT innocent, no of course not, but there is plenty of blame to go around.  I am sure A&M will eventually get into the SEC, OU will go into the PAC12+, and Texas will either go to the PAC12+ or go Indie, but let's be real, I am a Texas fan in Austin, and I can't get the Longhorn Network, how is this really the shot that destroyed the conference.  That was the inability of Texas, NU, OU, CU, A&M, and Mizzou  to get along.  Call it money issues, or egos, or too top heavy of conferences there is plenty of blame to go around.  I for one am pissed I never thought as a college football fan I would be looking forward to the least there is stability there.

Beside, last I checked, Nebraska was in the top 10 with three potential All-Americans on defense.  Where is Texas these days?  You certainly picked the year to trash talk other teams, didn't you, Mr. Longhorn?

Hey, guys.  Don't respond to Suicidaire.  He's a Texas troll who can't seem to keep the Huskers out of his bad mouth.  Buddy, seriously.  Nebraska made plans to leave over a year ago.  Get over it!  You're worse than a psychotic ex-girlfriend who keeps stalking you trying to ruin your current relationship.

Get over it!  This story isn't even ABOUT Nebraska and you found a way to trash them.  Bravo.  You should change your tampon.

Blame Nebraska and Colorado for what? Where in their school charters does it make them responsible for the financial well-being of the athletic departments of schools like Baylor and Iowa State?

SMU, Rice, and Houston are laughing right now. Baylor shunned them and tried to move up the Big XII with the big boys back in the 90s. SMU, Rice, and Houston may be small-time but at least their future is secure.

Here are two important points:

1. The SEC didn't "raid" the Big XII. Texas A&M originally contacted the SEC in response to the Longhorn Network and the 2009-2010 expansionpalooza. Texas A&M asked them to raid and SEC presidents voted 12-0 against it. After A&M made the necessary arrangements to become a "free agent," the SEC picked them up.

2. It has also come to light that the Big XII contacted Arkansas. THIS is the definition of "raiding." The SEC has means for a counter-suit, which they won't as they want to avoid the courts, especially Texas ones, but at least they have some evidence in their defense that the Big XII was attempted to solicit a promise for Arkansas to leave the SEC.

Why Arkansas would leave the SEC is beyond me, and beyond Jeff Long, who gave them a HELL NO.

Umm - Baylor - Come over here, Sparkey.  How'd this turn out for the Big East when Curly, Larry and Moe left for the ACC?

Baylor is desperate and right at the same time

Nebraska had a few down years last decade, but that doesn't mean they aren't a major power.   They're a top 10 school this year, were a top school in the Big 12 the past 3 years.  If you think any school the Big 12 could lure is nearly as good as them, you're kidding yourself.

I know these teams aren't juggernauts like the conference lost in Nebraska and A&M

Uh, when did Nebraska and A&M become juggernauts? Did I miss a memo or meeting?

The last time Nebraska was relevent was the mid 90s. The last time A&M was relevent is before documented history. These are hardly juggernauts.

Baylor is doing what they can to survive. It is the same thing they pulled when the SWC merged with the Big 8. They were going to be left out in the cold in favor of TCU and our idiot Governor at the time (Baylor Grad) nixed the deal and insisted that Baylor be taken instead. This time they don't have that leverage because our current iteration of idiot Governor is an A&M grad.

The irony in the whole matter is A&M's president saying the following, "These actions go against the commitment that was made by this university and the Big 12 on Sept. 2. We are working diligently to resolve any and all issues as outlined by the SEC." Funny your actions go against the committment A&M and the Big 12 made last summer to keep the conference alive. You agreed to Texas pursuing a partnership with ESPN to create The Longhorn Network. You even passed on being a part of it.

What a hypocrite...
