I feel the need, the need for speed-themed videos.

Time-lapse mini films have become instant viral feed in the past 12 months. There are plenty of really great ones out there, but over time, there's a diminishing-returns factor to them. No matter, I was wondering how the metamorphosis of a 60,000-ton ship into a basketball venue would take place. Someone was smart enough to perch a camera a few hundred feet above the USS Carl Vinson and document to slow-but-speedy transformation.

Lots of cranes, forklifts, the usual. The day/night turnover is also fun. The court looks a little more blasé than I'd expected, but this is a game taking place to honor our military, so it's appropriate to go straight-laced.

Enjoy:

Wow what a great job. It would be nice if more the Mich ST and NC were able to play a game on the ship.

Stop your crying.  Do you know what this ship has been part of?  It's sitting at harbor for a week in part to honor our troops.  I hardly call this a waste of money.  Would you rather have us get into another war and put this ship to use?  Would that make you feel better about your tax money?

To the dummies who think tax is paying for the game...private donations are paying, not us. Not to mention this is a 2 hour advertisement for the US Navy. Even if it were paid by us, it would probably cost less than a penny a person...or hundreds of percents more than you pay to watch the game on tv.

Stop being bitches about every thing going on for crying out loud.

Justin, it is cool and a nice gesture for the military on Veterans Day. According to the forecast is should be in the low 70's with light winds. It should be fun to watch,

Happy Veterans Day to all that are serving and have served our great Country. Many thanks and bless you all.

This is pretty cool...even if it is a huge waste of tax dollars.

Really?  It this the best use of a $15 Billion dollar warship? Your tax dollars at work!

Probably not, but in comparison to Obama flying all over the world it's a bargain, and I dare say more productive and definitely more entertaining. Besides, how many terrorists bodies can you bury at sea in one year?

I used to live in SD and played a lot of ball down by the bay and it is always windy making it difficult to shoot from long range.  Will be interesting to see if anything will be put up to block the wind or if shots will be going every which way.

hey ceasar, is that what you are really worried about.  that ship has been around the world doing missions for a long time. its the ship that dropped bin laden in the middle of the ocean. that alone is worth the tax money. relax and let the hard working marines and navy men and women enjoy an awesome day and great idea.
