WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - While Gary Parrish is on an aircraft carrier in sunny San Diego, I'm in the new Mackey Arena in chilly West Lafayette, Ind.
Purdue finally has bells and whistles.
Let's face it: It's difficult to compete for players these days with outdated facilities.
That's what Matt Painter has had to deal with - until now.
Purdue has upgraded its locker rooms, film room, meeting room, weight room - and even laundry facility.
It was much-needed.
"We only had one toilet before," Purdue senior Robbie Hummel half-joked.
There's a new practice facility so that the team doesn't have to practice in the rec center (where Hummel tore his ACL for the second time).
There's a premium club, a courtside club and even a new ticket office.
Mackey Arena got a serious facelift this offseason - in just about every way. In addition, Painter - with the help of his little dance he did with Missouri - also secured higher salaries for his staff.
The arena's rededication is tonight - on the same night that Hummel makes his much-anticipated return to the court.
We'll have much more on Hummel later.
