COLUMBUS, Ohio -- One school entered ranked second in the Associated Press poll, the other was ranked third. So on paper not much separated Ohio State from Duke. But on the court -- at least on this Tuesday night -- the two storied programs couldn't have been farther apart.

Final score: No. 2 Ohio State 85, No. 3 Duke 63.

Yep, it was a beatdown from start to finish here at Value City Arena.

Ohio State opened on an 11-0 run, led 47-28 at the half, by as many as 25 in the second half and cruised to a lopsided victory that legitimized it as a true national contender before a star-studded crowd featuring former Buckeyes (Michael Redd, Evan Turner, Greg Oden, Mike Conley, etc.), a current NBA coach (Doc Rivers) and two NBA stars (LeBron James and Dwyane Wade). The Buckeyes are now 7-0 with five 30-point wins -- plus victories over No. 3 Duke and No. 10 Florida. They haven't done anything on the road yet, obviously; they'll get that opportunity on Dec. 10 at No. 15 Kansas. But what Ohio State showed against the winningest men's coach in Division I history -- and his team that just won the Maui Invitational -- is that it has rock-solid point guard who understands and appreciates both ends of the court, a pro wing and college basketball's best big man, and those things combined to overwhelm Duke.

The point guard (Aaron Craft) finished with 17 points and eight assists.

The wing (William Buford) finished with 20 points and four assists.

The big man (Jared Sullinger) got 21 points and eight rebounds.

The Blue Devils?

They got 22 points from freshman star Austin Rivers.

That was a bright spot.

But mostly, Duke just got slaughtered -- from the opening tip to the final horn.

Ohio State dominates Duke from start to finish

Ohio State gave the blueprint for beating Duke...don't let their catch-and-shooters catch and shoot. The have no real playmaker at the point. The only person capable of doing so is a Doc Rivers' son, Austin Rivers. But so far in his early college career, when he drives to the basket he's only looking to score. He's not distributing the ball to the catch-and-shooters. Without a true point that knows how to drive and kick, Duke finds it very hard to score. The Plumlee brothers aren't real back to the basket scorers. They're window cleaners. And Sullinger and crew are too big, too strong and too athletic for them to keep up with, post up or rebound over.

I'm not Duke fan. I'm no Buckeyes fan. I'm actually a Louisville Cardinals fan. (Go Cards) And believe me, the Cards have their own problems with injuries. But I love the college game and can appreciate a good performance.

ACC...if you wanna beat Duke, roll the OSU tape and hope you have half the talent of the Buckeys!

I really had faith we'd pull out the "W" tonight, but to do it in such a dominating fashion? Watch out here we come AGAIN!! Though I'm sure some of the CBS staff ("DD") will find a way to dump on this preformance! Way to go Thad & THE Ohio State Buckeyes!!!!

Ohio State dominates Duke from start to finish

Who was that fool earlier that was talking about how Duke was gonna blast Ohio State? Dukies, welcome to Columbus, where 25 point beatdowns of everyone are a regular occurrence. Big 10 up 4-2 in the Challenge. Looks like it could be 3 in a row over the ACC. Duke really was no match for Ohio State. If that is the best the ACC has to offer, then it doesn't have much. I do suspect North Carolina is better than Duke. Better than Ohio State, though? No.

Very impressive win by the Buckeyes! It's early in the season so I hesitate to read too much into it but I think it's fair to say that if there were any doubts about Ohio State being title contenders those should be quieted until proven otherwise. Duke fans, don't feel too bad, I'm sure your Blue Devils will bounce back strongly and be a title contender as well. Best of luck to you for the rest of the season.
