Looks like Thad Matta doesn't come to this space all that often.

My suggestion to the Ohio State coach was that he shut down his star big man, Jared Sullinger, for the time being. Let him relax over the holidays and sit out tomorrow night against Lamar and later this week against Miami (Ohio).

However, Matta told the media this afternoon that Sullinger, who has battled back spasms and now a foot injury already this season, will play on Tuesday.

It makes no sense.

The last we saw Sullinger he was hobbling off the court on crutches, shortly after his team defeated South Carolina.

That was Saturday.

It was diagnosed officially as a bone bruise to his foot and I may be overreacting, but there's just no reason to risk throwing out there the guy who will ultimately determine whether you can make a deep run in March.

Let him sit back and listen to Christmas music. Just take it slow.

Evidently, Matta disagrees.

Does Matta tell the author how to write? I think not. Stick to writing and let Matta coach his team.

Its very important that Sullinger play in this all important game against LAMAR. However, that meaningless Kansas game, why risk it? Thad Matta seems a little clueless to me in gauging the importance of certain games.

Matta needs to at least limit his minutes. We shouldn't need him for more than 10 minutes so let the youngsters get in there and keep Sully healthy. Big10 games will be very physical and he doesnt need to be nursing any sore parts when they start.

Nah, let the dude play. If he is healthy enough to play, then play. If he is a baller and competitor, then he wants to be out there. If he feels good and ready to go - if the coach feels he can go - if the team specialists and medical staff says he is good to go, then let him play. You can't sheild him from injuries now or when he returns to the court if you sit him. If he is going to get hurt, he is going to get hurt - whether it be a Lamar OR if you sit him and he comes back during conf play and he gets hurt that game.

If he re-aggrevated his back, then I woud sit him, but this is a totally separate injury. shoot, next week, he could separate his shoulder - who knows!

I am an avid Buckeye fan and agree 100% with you ... rest him!  We need him in March!
