Texas A&M has had its fair share of problems this season, but one of the main culprits for its up-and-down start has been turnovers.

Now, the Aggies will have to go at it with just one point guard on the roster: freshman Jamal Branch has decided to transfer.

“Jamal Branch and his father decided to look at some other options and transfer,” head coach Billy Kennedy told reporters on Thursday night. “We wish him the best.”

Branch’s father, Jerome, told Evan Daniels of Scout.com that they don’t have a new list of schools yet.

Branch was a highly-touted prospect coming out of high school, ranking in the top 50 in most rankings. He was averaging 18.6 minutes coming off the bench behind senior Dash Harris. Branch added a different dimension than Harris, with the ability to get to the rim and create shots for himself. Branch was expected to take the reins next season and run the show for the next three years. He averaged 4.2 points and 2.5 assists in 11 games, with a season-high 10 points coming in a loss to Mississippi State earlier this season.

Without Branch, the Aggies are very thin in the backcourt. Harris is the lone ball-handler on the team, while shooter Elston Turner will need to get some backup minutes at the point.

The Texas A&M program is still considered a "sleeping giant" only partially realized during the Billy Gillespie era. Although they have been to the NCAA tournament for the past 8 years or so, they are a program that can slip back to mediocrity at any point. Losing talented players like this doesn't help, but nevertheless, if any great ascention is to take place with this or any program, it has to involve student-athletes who are made of a special fiber and character that realizes that they can be a part of building something special. It seems that Mr. Branch doesn't have this outlook or insinct in his makeup....so don't let the door hit you on the arse. Go get your starting job at Sam Houston St. or McNeese St.

Man up and play through it, any adversity and a lot of these kids fold. They are coddled and praised their whole lives and cant take any sort of criticism (even if it is constructive). Its sickening that if these kids dont get the minutes they want instead of earning them they go home. Pathetic.

Was he recruited by Mark Turgeon?  Maybe he isn't comfortable with the new head coach?
