Alabama fans cheer LSU when it crosses midcourt

I alluded to this in the Wakeup Call, and now that we've got video, this must be shared.

The best kinds of taunts, cheers and jeers are the ones that transcend basketball. There's a clever, in bounds, next-level approach that fans can take; a sign or taunt or organized gesture doesn't have to be evil. The best ones aren't. Some of the worst, in fact, are.

Alabama fans offered up one of my favorite moments of the year Wednesday night with a cheer we've never seen before. Fresh off that national championship in football Monday night, LSU and Alabama had a rematch on the court. In the football game, Les Miles' Tigers had issues crossing the 50-yard line. In fact, they only did it once.

So, at the start of the game Wednesday night, what did Tide fans do?

It isn't as bombastic and Bronx-cheery as it could have been (that's because the joint wasn't even at capacity, a perennial issue with a few SEC hoop schools). But it's still pretty great. You know what Alabama fans should do? Until the Tide football team gets humbled again by LSU -- could be a year, could be five -- they should keep this tradition alive.

Alabama won the game, 69-53. It will be a tournament team. LSU, not so much. But at least the football rivalry has taken itself indoors and beside the court.

Perhaps you could assume that it is on the same level as the, "Special Olympics"?

It sounds like you are healthy...why not volunteer your time? You might "walk" away with a much less condescending attitude!
i was referring to the same athletic level, meaning the NCAA doesnt recognize the titles, try reading more than one sentence before putting your foot in your mouth because in no way was my comment condescending toward people in wheelchairs, and trust me, i voluteer plenty of my time and money with st. jude on a yearly basis, maybe you should do the same rather than wasting your time criticizing other people's comments

Funny!  If it would have been done repeatedly, all night long, bad taste.  Once, yea, funny.

Based on your comment about Boise St your prediction about Richardson is highly suspect.  You do recall that the smurfs were challenged by a mediocre Georgia team at the beginning of the season...the same GA team that got embarrassed in the SEC championship game.  Tough and Boise St don't really belong in the same sentence.

You are right about one thing...it wasn't the National Championship game...it was the BCS National Championship game of which the Crimson Tide is the unequaled champions 2 out of the last 3 years.

High school stuff, but still funny

Rival high schools have been doing that for years.  When the team that lost the football game is ahead in basketball, the other team's crowd chants "football, football."  It's still great, though, and a lot better than projectiles and obscenities.  I'm sorta surprised that something that funny is coming from Bammer.  I was expecting more Harvey Updike Jr kind of behavior.  I guess that only happens when Bammer loses.

Anyway, I hope Bammer never figures out how to loophole oversigning in basketball they way they did in football.  It would be too much for any fan outside of Bammer to take.

That football game was not the National Championship.  It was defensive drills for an SEC team.  Laugh if you want to, but a creative and tough Boise St. could have made that a game if you consider it was played indoors on a speedy surface....Doug Martin has a longer/productive NFL career than Richardson....my prediction.

Ah jennrock, I believe that alabama got rated the top recruiting class and is keeping a lot of their players for next year. They are going to be just as good if not better next year. You couldn't get past the 50 yard line so what makes you think you will "run up the score" next season?
