If a team gets beatdown like UNC did at Florida State Saturday, does it mean they won't win the title? Well, nobody's ever lost by 33 and gone on to cut down nets. In fact, no one's ever lost by more than 27 in a season and gone on to win it all. recruiting savant and bro supreme Jeff Borzello calls in from the Hoop Hall Classic to discuss Carolina's chances of bucking that trend, as well as Roy Williams taking his team off the floor before that game was over. Bro-zello and I also get into the Ryan Boatright situation at UConn -- he's sitting out of games again, pending NCAA review of his eligibility -- as well as a look ahead to tonight's huge game: Baylor at Kansas.

Here it is:
  • From the beginning: Borzello's watching the best high school tournament of the season, the Hoop Hall Classic, up in Springfield, Mass. For people that follow this stuff, or want more, he runs down the essentials.
  • 7:13: It's on to UNC. That huge loss. No team's ever loss by more than 27 points has gone on to win a title that season. Why should UNC be any different?
  • 13:40: Roy Williams complied with Leonard Hamilton's suggestion of getting UNC's coaches and guys sitting on the bench off the floor before the storm. But the walk-ons on the court? Left for dead. Williams deflects talk from the loss. Brilliant.
  • 16:24: Ryan Boatright is again ineligible. He sits and waits while his situation is reviewed. Why's this happening right now and what's the crux of the problem?
  • 20:21: The nation's most underrated great player? Arnett Moultrie.
  • 23:24: Advance of Baylor at Kansas, which amounts to a game that could have some more big-picture reaction if Baylor smothers the 'Hawks.
  • 26:42: Some gib-gab to finish up. Insanity workouts, Borzello trying to drop 20 pounds in two months, the NFL playoffs, 30-person birthday parties at german restaurants.

Continued thanks from me to you for keep coming back and listening. Please: spread the word. Hoops season is ramping up, and I'd love more hate mail. Spread this page and the iTunes subscription link to anyone you'd think would like this sort of think. We post three times per week, with the Wednesday show being a low-rent sitcom wannabe of a half hour, thanks to national writers Gary Parrish and Jeff Goodman Skyping in their opinions. The RSS feed is another way to keep the podcasts coming to you ASAP. We've got a Zune download link as well.

Podcast: Why does UNC's 33-point loss matter?

Just like the past sports analysts. We always look at stats and assume things that arent really true. I really don't under stand how this is realavent to what will take place in the future. I under stand the reasons we do it but don't understand how this will play in the future. Quit living in the past.

Podcast: Why does UNC's 33-point loss matter?

I can't believe the excuses.  I can't believe the coverage even after the massive blowout.  I can't believe the flat out butt kissing!  Brilliant for walking off the floor?  LOL  I come here for laughs and you never fail to provide them CBS.  The thing "brilliant" about walking off was how smart Hamilton was to draw attention to what a dweeb Williams is.  Yeah Williams used his massive ESP powers to get Leonard Hamilton to walk over and advise him to take his players off the floor before they were mobbed.  Brilliant Roy Boy.  LOLOLOL  You guys just can't stop sucking can you?  What a major league loser of a comment there Matt!  Even when Roy gets stomped in the dirt he still manages to be brilliant - in your mind - for something he didn't even do.  It's hilariously stupid!

And for all you people who have it in your head that UNC is "still" the best team in America you crack me up too!  Such buffoonery.  CBS should put this stuff on prime time.  Nothing in America is funnier than this.  Who needs sitcoms and reality shows?  We could all be reading this stuff for laughs.  Watch out Dave and Jay and all the pro-smartasses.  Your job is on the line.  You could be playing second fiddle to the bozo express from this web site.

I mean it guys.  You really crack me up.  I guess insanity is always funny or it has been since the 60's and the acid heads in California decided the village nut was the funniest thing around.  Now we let them bellow world wide on the web.  Mass communication.  You just can't beat it.  Who knew just how wacky these guys really were before the net?

Thanks for the laughs CBS.  Seriously.  Tell us again how it was brilliant to get someone else to ask you to walk off early.  That's worthy of an instant re-run.  Lucy was never that funny.

Podcast: Why does UNC's 33-point loss matter?

I understand why the North Carolina loss is newsworthy. Further, I love stats and the related analysis. With that said, is there really a difference between losses by 27 and 33 points? While historically no team has ever won a NCAA title with a loss of more than 27 points, the fact that a team lost that badly and still won it all is EXACTLY the reason North Carolina should not be counted out. It's one thing to consider past trends but it's utterly stupid - especially when discussing a team this talented and well-coached (normally) - to suggest UNC is suddenly out of contention because of a bad loss in January.

Have questions been raised about UNC? Yes. Did they play terribly? Yes. Did FSU play a game they'll likely never repeat? Yes. Losses happen. In their race for a second consecutive title Florida lost 6 or 7 games yet they were clearly the best team that season. I'm not trying to spin positive the UNC situation but I also cannot stand reactive 'analysis' like this. UNC is still in the title hunt - and seriously so.

Podcast: Why does UNC's 33-point loss matter?

Marshall is a leader. The loss was terrible, but last February on everyone was saying how Marshall was the vocal leader they needed and he turned it around. One terrible loss later does not make him less vocal or less of a leader.
