UK looks like the sport's only trustworthy team

Kentucky played another basketball game and killed another basketball team on Saturday.

This time the victim was LSU.

And it's starting to look like the Wildcats are the lone trustworthy thing in the sport.

Sure, John Calipari will continue to question his team and build others up because that's what he does. But there's no denying that the third-year Kentucky coach doesn't just have the nation's most talented roster. He's also got the country's top team. And the Wildcats are playing like it. And they're just a wild 3-pointer away from sitting here in late January with a 22-0 record.

Think about that.

If Christian Watford's buzzer-beater doesn't swish, Kentucky is undefeated.

Nobody else is literally one shot away from perfection.

Syracuse was handled at Notre Dame. Ohio State was handled at Illinois. Missouri was handled at Oklahoma State. North Carolina was handled at UNLV (and destroyed at Florida State). Baylor was handled at home by Missouri. Kansas was handled at Iowa State. Duke was handled at Temple. Georgetown was handled at Pittsburgh. Michigan State was handled at Northwestern and Michigan. And I just listed everybody else in the top 10 of the latest AP poll. Put another way, seven (Syracuse, Ohio State, Missouri, Kansas, Duke, Georgetown and Michigan State) of the nine schools not named Kentucky that are ranked in the top 10 have lost to a currently unranked opponent, and the other two have either lost at home (Baylor to Missouri) or been routed (North Carolina at FSU).

Meantime, the Wildcats are rolling.

I'm not saying they'll finish the regular season with one loss.

But they sure look like they could, don't they?

UK looks like the sport's only trustworthy team

mattyk......well, thank you, the search for the missing link is now over.  If you truly believe the BS you just posted, then your IQ level probably falls BELOW that oof the missing link.  Syracuse the better transition team???  From someone who has undoubtedly never watched MKG posterize anyone foolish enough to stand between he and the rim; or Lamb twisting his body into 100 different shapes to split defenders; to Teague, who, depsite his now, fading offensive woes, has ALWAYS been able to get to the rack; to Jones, a finally-back Jones, doing what MKG does, just in a different way; to Miller, who can stop and pop a 12-foot pullup with ANYONE in the college game today; to Davis, who can, and regulalryl DOES fly way above ANYONE to throw down....for you to state that is homerism and stupidity at its ultimate.  And Melo affecting the game?  I don't see it.  We are not dependent on going inside to win.  And for certain Melo's offensive (which are just that, offensive) "skills" are not going to worry UK.  If they played today, neutral court, UK by 8-10.  In two months, when UK has jelled, UK by 15, easy, all day, every day.

What about the inevitable investigation into child molestation at your pedophilic university? Don't just throw out unfounded claims when you have some serious skeletons in your own closet. Idiot

If/when UK plays Syracuse, it will be UK's top seven, not six that matter.  Kyle Wiltjer would be a very valuable player. His mid range jumpers would cause real trouble for the Syracuse zone.  With Wiltjer in the game Davis would be even harder to stop on the boards.

UK looks like the sport's only trustworthy team

I'm telling ya; I have watched the Cats play ball ever since I can remember; everyone remember Caywood Ledford!!!  Anyway; what most people that are not from Ky. do not know or realize is that the reason we are sooooo proud of the Wildcats is beacuse we have nothing else.  No Pro Basketball team...which I can't believe; no Pro Football team, and no Pro Baseball team;  the CATS are all we got...and we are the BEST at it!!! I went to UK and "walked on " the football team there, and I remember saying to myself...this is for all the guys in Ky. that never had a chance to play ball for the CATS.  I love KY. Basketball-GO BIG BLUE !!!!!!Tongue out

What does Davis' ability to block shots have to do with attacking the zone? Are they going to pitch a shut out? Of course not. Syracuse is absolutely the better transition team. You couldn't find an expert that says otherwise. These teams each do a lot of things that hurt the other. So it would be an interesting game. If SU gets Melo back they're a horrible match up for UK.

People say the zone stops UK and that UK doesn't have enough shooters. These statements show true right now. But when you have a shot blocker who has more total blocks than every team in the country except for 39 of them. Then you don't really need dominant shooting. UK runs up and down the floor better then any school. Teams try to run with them and they just get tired out and can not hang with UK. As long as Anthony Davis and his unibrow of power are underneath the basket teams are going to struggle stopping the wildcats!

JD Syracuse plays teams that are rated high by biased sportswriters and you think that means your conference is tough.  Last year you had ONE good team in the whole 42 team league.  Yet you get more bids than any other conference????  Why?  How many of your teams made it out of the first weekend?  The BE bombed in the tourney last year yet at the start of the season there they are at the top of the RPI ratings again.  Horse Hockey.  They aren't nearly as good as you claim.  You want to badmouth the SEC but truth be told it's a far better conference. The BE had ELEVEN teams in the tourney (at least _ don't remember exactly) but only TWO advanced past the first weekend and one of those played another BE team so that one had to make it.  Yet at the start of this year there they are ranked right back at the top of the heap.

I checked ESPN's site.   Not one of their writers picked UK to make the final 4 last year but they picked 13 out of a possible 56 picks to be BE teams to go to the last weekend.  Some writers picked 2 BE teams to make the F4.  But even after the embarrassng display put on by the BE in the tourney the pre-season poll this year had 4 out of the top 10 teams from the BE.  That's insane.  That's bias.

If there's any justice at all in the world there will be ONE BE team in the top 10 sometime today.  So how is it that you think the BE is so tough?  You need to stop listening to your cheerleaders in the press.  Yes UCONN won it all last year.  They beat UK by one in the tournament and this year's UK team is MUCH better.  It's not over until it's over to quote Yogi but let's not delude ourselves into thinking the BE is better than the SEC.  They aren't.  No way.  Your conference isn't the only one to get a big step up from the media and the NCAA either.  UNC and Duke both got blown out this year yet neither is out of the top 10.  What a JOKE!  I mean a 33 point loss and you're still in the top 10.  That's ridiculous.  It proves the polls are driven by money.

BTW it's true only 2 SEC teams advanced out of the first weekend last year too but they had far fewer teams in the tournament after a great team (Alabame) was snubbed by the NCAA.

And by the way this will all come unraveled by the inevitable NCAA investigation. I just hope UK doesn't win it all because it would be unfair to every team they beat on the way when it's vacated.

Kentucky's bench is not as good as Syracuse's. No way. At some point you are all fixated on the wrong things. UK would struggle against the zone. Not enough shooters. I also wouldn't have so much faith in Teague. The issue for Syracuse would be that if they don't figure out how to rebound, UK would kill them on the glass. This would be a really good game. Put aside any team/fan pride and I think it's a coin flip. UK would have trouble with SU's D and their guards. SU would have a horrible time keeping UK off the boards, and as UK's D has improved, SU might struggle in the half court.
