Syracuse is getting its big man back.

The Post-Standard reported that sophomore Fab Melo, a key reason why the Orange spent numerous weeks at No. 1 in the country and are considered a championship contender, will play Saturday at St. John's.

The 7-footer has missed the past three games due to academic issues.

Syracuse was 1-2 in that stretch -- including its first loss of the season at Notre Dame.

Melo is averaging 7.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game and leads the team in blocks with 60. He was a disappointment last season, but shed weight in the offseason and has been a factor on both ends of the court this year.

Without him in the lineup, freshman Rakeem Christmas has slid over and started in the middle and C.J. Fair has moved into the starting lineup.

Syracuse is 22-1 overall and in first place in the Big East with a 9-1 mark.

Cuse fans come down to Duncan's on Hiawatha and we can talk a little roundball.

Wow, what other team did we lose to, Goodman?

How embarrassing for you. You should have your journalism degree from the University of Idiots taken away.

Funny how you mention Syracuse is 22-1 on the season later on in your own article.

MORON.

Also it's kind of ironic the lead story on cbssportsline college bb today is about the much improved Norte Dame team,
which was such a poor loss in the eyes of the voters 2 weeks ago, yet the winnig team over kentucky is falling off the charts lately

Thanks Joe B.  I was hoping someone caught that.  Jeff G - I know it was almost midnight when you posted this, but you have to do a little better.  SU's lone loss was to a suddenly hot Notre Dame team on the road.  Anyway, bad math aside, it is looking a lot better for 'Cuse now.  Glad the big man is back in the middle.  His stats don't scream "dominant," but the team stats show how important he is and how much he was missed.
Go 'Cuse!

that's hilarious they were 1-2 during that 3 game stretch-yet their record now is 22-1-all in one article.  Fuzzy math for sure

Its West Virginia math.. 1-2 there actually means 2-1 in real numbers.  Kinda like how 27 months really means 5 months.

I think they COULD certainly be a competitive team without him but they are better WITH him. His numbers are good but it's how he affects the game that tells the real story. The golden lining in this temporary loss was that Christmas got extra playing time and it was a very valuable learning experience, maybe it can help the team long term? If so, who cares about the loss?
