Alabama has suspended forward Tony Mitchell for rest of the season, sources told CBSSports.com, while senior big man JaMychal Green has been reinstated to practice.

Crimson Tide coach Anthony Grant suspended Mitchell a couple weeks ago for conduct detrimental to the team.

Grant then suspended Green, along with starting point guard Trevor Releford and Andrew Steele, just prior to the loss against LSU on Feb. 11.

Releford and Steele were reinstated and played in the last two games - a loss at home against Florida and a victory in Tuscaloosa over Tennessee.

Green, Mitchell and Releford are the top three scorers on the team. Mitchell was averaging 13.1 points and seven rebounds.

The Crimson Tide are 17-9 overall and 6-6 in SEC play heading into Thursday's game against Arkansas.

I just want to know what happened.  It appears that Green will sit 2 more games, so that will make five total.  His second suspension was 3 and I think his first was 1 game.... so that might be the trend, and explains why Releford and Steele only sat 1.

Mitchell's seperate incident worries me the most.  He either broke some NCAA rule or just is stubborn and has refused to work with the coaches..... hopefully it's the latter.

"Green is the far more important player; he gives them a long, athletic body down low on offense and defense. Mitchell's athletic, but his productivity can easily be replaced by players like Steele, Levi Randolph, and Rodney Cooper."

Although I agree Green is more important to the team I don't think Mitchell is easily replaced.  None of those guys have ever come close to avereraging 14 points 7 boards  They also don't have his powerful, momentum changing, high flying dunks.  I do think Green might be better off without Mitchell though, because now he should play more of his natural PF position rather than Center.

Yes, DISCLOSURE.....or lack thereof.  Two possibilites. Either there is some kind of investigation going on that requires a gag order or Grant is getting a pass by the media (and everyone else) because he is African American.  It is interesting that there is not more of a push- by the media- nor any comments from the University explaining matters to the public. Time will tell, I guess.

While @drunkinpublic may use some questionable commentary, his inquiry is indeed valid and I think a few of you are dismissing his post not due to tactfulness but because of the potential answers.

As much as we would like to hope Grant is indeed simply taking the high road, the way this situation is being handled is seemingly very suspect.  There should be some level of disclosure but unfortunately this continued practice will only further promote the assumption of ill-gotten tactics due to the school and the conference's previous track record.

At least we know that "Dunk in Public" aptly described himself. That type of bigotry has no place in our society, much less a message board.

I am not a Bama fan and don't know anything about what occurred to cause the suspensions, but....your comment might be the most ignorant rant I've read in quite some time.  You must lead an sad, angry life.  Please unplug your keyboard for everybody's sake.
