Marquette coach Buzz Williams suspended three players for the first half, fell behind by 15 points in the second half and yet he still, somehow, figured out a way to escape West Virginia with a 61-60 victory late Friday.

And then he danced.

Right there in the middle of the court.

To "Country Roads."

"I wasn't trying to be disrespectful," Williams told ESPN's Bill Raftery moments later. "I'm very happy and pleased."

As well he should've been because it's not often a coach can teach a lesson and still win a big game, but that's what Williams managed to do at West Virginia. He suspended Darius Johnson-Odom, Vander Blue and Junior Cadougan for the first half -- and Todd Mayo for the second half -- because of a violation of team rules, which left the 10th-ranked Golden Eagles with just six players available for the opening 20 minutes. Predictably, they fell behind by double-digits. But then Jae Crowder (26 points) got going and Johnson-Odom, Blue and Cadougan combined for 23 second-half points to help Marquette erase the deficit and record its school-record 13th Big East victory.

And then Buzz danced.

Right there in the middle of the court.

To "Country Roads."

And it was hilarious ... especially when some West Virginia fans had to be restrained. Things were close to getting wild, which is not something Williams anticipated. He explained his actions afterward by saying he was  just overly excited and dancing in the moment to a song he heard that reminded him of his childhood in Texas. It didn't register with Williams that "Country Roads" is West Virginia's song until the fans were already irate, and Williams told CBSSports.com late Friday that he regretted his celebration and how it came off.

"Emotional response and very unprofessional," Williams texted to CBSSports.com. "I apologized. I was just excited."

I call BULLSH*T! that is exactly what this article and the outrage is... bull sh*t!

that weak white boy 3 little slithers of his feat and they call that dancing... CMON NOW! I am a WVU fan but this is crap! yea Buzz was excited but no harm no foul. I t wasnt as though he ran to mid field and danced on the star!(one of the greatest celebration and show of immaturity ever!).

So it seems everyone is ok with the garbage chest pounding, yelling, stomping and all the other BS celebrations that these athletes pull off and think this is really an issue? buzz and huggy are off having a few shots, couple pints and both laughing about it!

LIGHTEN UP PEOPLE!

Buzz wins at WVU, dances to Country Roads

I'm a student at WVU and was at this game.  I agree it was disrespectful for the coach to do this on an opponent's court but he has apologized for doing so.  That being said, people need to understand that there are not any professional teams in WV so WVU sports (and Marshall for that matter) are what the state gets behind and fully supports.  The students in the video were obviously upset about how we just blew a 15 point lead to a very good Marquette team and seeing the coach act like this compounded the anger/frustration felt in a game like this.  WVU has one of the most passionate, spirited, and yes sometimes raucous student sections in the country but until you've been a student here and attended one of these games it's really hard to describe or understand.

The coach was dancing because he was excited.  Big deal.  Those college kids need to chill and save their energy for betting things, like partying on the weekend and hooking-up with girls and dudes.  As we all know from our days in college, that is a lot more fun.  It's pretty comical to see all of them in the background getting all pissed-off and twisted.

Calm down, everyone . . geeez!

I stayed up to watch this game on Armed Forces Network here in Europe and it was worth the time.  As Marquette trailed miserably in the first half, one could feel the momentum change when the suspended players took the court.
One could feel the tension and stress just by checking out the Marquette coach's shirt . . perhaps he should change colors in the future . . ??
The ending was exciting and the coach was ecstatic, which was not the case with the vocal crowd.  WVU has fallen on some hard times on home court and away (71-44 at ND!).  And when the opposing coach is caught up in the excitement of a 1 point hard fought victory on a less-than-friendly court, he surely can get carried away.
I saw the (very) few dance steps as a release factor after a tough come-from-behind win . . there was no intent to humiliate or taunt the local crowd . . a very emotional moment as he went to the TV announcers for interview.  Too many (fans, students, announcers, etc.) read too much into what is only "the thrill of victory" . . their problem is more "the agony of defeat"!

That is why he apologized.  Get over it.

I am a WVU Alum and huge fan and I did not like the busch league dance by Williams.  However, sometimes good people do dumb things and certainly things they regret.  And, the man apologized.  Good enough for me.
