Kidd-Gilchrist: I'm staying at Kentucky

Don't write off the idea that Kidd-Gilchrist would return for his sophomore season. (US Presswire)

It’s around this time every year when we start to see some of the top players in the country swear they’re returning to college next season. And then, come April, they go pro anyway.

As a result, most people took Michael Kidd-Gilchrist’s comments after Kentucky’s win over Vanderbilt with a grain of salt.

“I’m graduating here. I’m not going nowhere. I’m staying at Kentucky,” Kidd-Gilchrist said, according to Brett Dawson of Rivals.com. “I’m dead serious. I don’t know why y’all laughing.”

Will Kidd-Gilchrist definitely return to school? I have no idea. I wouldn’t doubt that he’s thinking about it, though.

Kidd-Gilchrist is just wired differently than most of the star freshmen and college players these days. He’s always been that way. He has never truly carried himself like a superstar, and even his skillset doesn’t resemble that of a typical “future NBA All-Star.” Kidd-Gilchrist outworks players, he outhustles players and he’s a winner above everything else.

If Anthony Davis had said the same thing about returning to school, would I believe him? Not a chance. He’s the No. 1 pick in the draft.

Kidd-Gilchrist has moved all the way up to No. 3 in several mock drafts, but I don’t think he’s overly concerned with that. He’s not the kind of player who will regress with another year in college. Kidd-Gilchrist doesn’t have a ton of people feeding him all sorts of conflicting information; he has a good support team around him that will help him make the right decision.

Like I said, do I think Kidd-Gilchrist is a lock to return to Kentucky for his sophomore season? No. But I certainly wouldn’t write off the idea when it comes to him.

Hes right though Sergio. These kids need to do whats best for them and their familys. If thats leavin school and makin him and his family rich im happy for um because alot of these kids came up from nothin. Why let your mom work two jobs or struggle for rent when you got a million dollar payday waitin on you?Cant tell me if that was you,you wouldnt jump.

And i dont wanna hear about no free education because that dont put a tiny dent in what type money these kids bring to the University.

trifectajoe:  Who would you rather be TODAY.....Jeremy Lin or John Wall?   Maybe you are correct in assuming that it's every young boy- who has a hoops pro dream- to be on a crappy team in the NBA but well paid.  PS When Google offers a Frosh hoopster $3 mil to quit school and come work for them, please, let us all know.

"He'll end up like Kemba Walker and John Wall"

So he'll end up rich, on a crappy team...is that a bad thing?

If he was a freshmen majoring in computer programming and Google offered him 3 million a year to quit school and come work for them, should he stay in school? Obviously not! You go get that money now, and if it don't work out you just go back to school 7-8 years down the road, and pay cash for it.

Why we think these kids owe us something because we give them a 40k scholarship to play a game that brings in around 20 million a year(4 UK anyway) is ridiculous.

I wonder if dynamos7 has a college education? Doubt it, it's really sad to see all these scumbag post that you worthless individuals are posting. Kentucky and Calipari are damned if they do, damned if they don't. The kid says he wants to stay, and you people dump on him, what have any of you worhtless people ever done in your life? Nothing! He can get an education and then make boat loads of $. I guess that makes him stupid, huh? What are you punks gonna bitch about if more than just him stay. You whine about 1 and done, and you whine if they stay. No wonder your single and living in your parents basement.

I am not a Kentucky fan but I love this guy. One of my favorite players, unselfish and smart with the ball. I wouldn't put much weight in the words that he is going to graduate but it sounds as if he has his head on straight and priorities in order.

I'm all for getting an education, but I don't know why you would stay when you're a lock to be a top 5 pick. You only have so many good years to earn the millions in the NBA and then there's nothing stopping you from going back to school at that point when it's all over. He's obviously got a good head on his shoulders and that comes from being raised by solid parents. So either way, his parents are and will always be very proud of their son and he'll be successful in life. As a UK fan, I'd love to see him stay, but at the same time I can't blame him if he doesn't.

Perhaps if you (dynamos7) moved from your moms' basement you would not feel the need to troll and flame!

Shame on any of y'all that would begrudge a young man an education simply to make a 'dash for NBA cash'.  Calipari has taken a lot of heat at UK for encouraging his kids to do just that.  Maybe that's changing. (Change I can believe in) The NBA lottery is kind like 'witness protection program'.  How many of UK's recent early exits do you see on TV on a regular basis?  You need the DirectTV pkg.  Anthony Davis is on TV every game @ UK.  He'll end up like Kemba Walker and John Wall.  That is unless the Lakers/Bulls/Celtics/Heat can somehow draft him.
