Former PSU player arrested for drug/gun ring

You may not recall former Penn State forward and co-captain Gyasi Cline-Heard. He was a senior who averaged 16 points per game for the Nittany Lions team that reached the Sweet 16 in 2001, the last time Penn State went so deep in the NCAAs. Cline-Heard went on to play for nearly a decade overseas, in places such as Belgium and South Korea.

Now he sits in Pinellas County Jail in Clearwater, Fla., after being arrested earlier this month on charges of running a drug ring. And a gun ring. Cline-Heard was not a henchman. He was straight up the Marlo Stanfield of a greater Tampa organized crime outfit. Dozens, if not more, illegal firearms were found taking up space in his home in New Port Richey on Feb. 10 when police busted through and confiscated a mini army's worth of weaponry in what I'm assuming looked like a scene straight out of "Lord of War."

From Erin Sullivan the Tampa Bay Times:
On Feb. 10, Cline-Heard, 32, was arrested on charges he was the leader of a drug and gun ring in Pasco and Pinellas. He and a 25-year-old woman, Jessica Colon, were picked up during a raid at her house in Tarpon Springs. Cline-Heard's tattoo shop in Palm Harbor, Legacy Tattoo, was also raided, along with his house in Trinity. Two other people were arrested at a New Port Richey home as part of the round-up.

Four dozen guns were found during the raids. The enormity of the stockpile of weapons — most of them assault rifles and machine guns with rounds that could easily penetrate officer's vests and cruisers — shocked investigators. Lt. Chuck Balderstone of the Pasco County Sheriff's Office picked up one firearm with a long silencer at a news conference announcing the bust.

"That's something you would see in a spy movie," he said.

This bust came to be after undercover "vice agents" actually bought well more than a pound cocaine and a .380-caliber handgun from Cline-Heard, according to Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco. Cline-Heard was believed to be selling the guns and bullets, weapons so formidable they could easily rip through protective vesting. It was militia-esque in its grandiosity.

"These people were pretty bad members of our society," Nocco was quoted in the Times' story.

Cline-Heard, the son of former NBA player and coach Gar Heard, divorced from his wife in November, according to the story, and he has a 1-year-old daughter.

Former PSU player arrested for drug/gun ring

I never thought about Penn State as a home for saints. I never thought about Ohio State as being a stronghold for virtue. Duke has its share of problems as have several Pac 10 schools. Virginia was recently received some unwelcome attention because of a murder trial. Any school can be had for everything from recruiting violations to manslaughter to molestation to murder. certainly members of the Southeast Conference are potential targerts for big-time ugly publicity and perhaps even Notre Dame, once the paragon of athletic wholesomeness, could one day be in the cross hairs of scandal . . . probably will be fired on via misconduct of priests. Hell, the Irish ineptitue in football in recent years indicates that anything can happen.

That thug deserves to go to jail.  I have no respect for people that think they are above everything.  The question is this...will they be linking him to past murders because of the guns he provided people who might have killed.  I have seen things similar to this which basically means the guy is going away for a long time!  Good...another scum ball in jail...where he belongs.

As for the colleges...Sure, PSU has taken some serious hits in the past few months.  Some of them have been outdated in my opinion and should have been stopped long ago.  But, I bet there are many other school programs which are not squeaky clean.  I think the PSU scandal is just the beginning of many more!  Ask Syracuse...they took a hit this year...Who is going to be next???  Its just a matter of time before something else gets discovered on another program.

Former PSU player arrested for drug/gun ring

They were never squeaky clean, that's just what Jo Pa wanted us all to think. Being from PA, I've had to put up with the most brain washed alumni there is. They cover up everything. When it was reported PSU had recruited over 30 people with criminal records, Joe's response was that ESPN was picking on them, never acknowledging the criminal history. Stories (arrests) of football players beating fellow students, most schools there kicked out, not under Jo-PA, especially if they actually played, suspend them for one of those sissy games PSu is so famous for playing. Their still riding off a 1986 championship, none of the players were even alive then.
ps Sandusky didn't retire because he was ready to go fishing, he was told to retire because Jo-Pa and the higher ups, knew then, what he had done, that far back, that's why Jo-PA was let go, they knew he was aware then and then he covered up again with the McQreary incident.   They get what the deserve! The only way its gets better is Sandusky takes a plea...otherwise.

I'm pretty sure this guy has been seen with Jerry

Sandusky around that same time period.  It's one big criminal conspiracy.

Former PSU player arrested for drug/gun ring

This is just another story that involves Penn State that is deflecting what should be the top story on campus. We all know the Sandusky circus trial will be the talk of central PA this summer and not this lame story of some drug and gun ring by a non-descript ex-Lion basketball player. I never had any clue that PSU even ever made it to the Sweet 16. My Bad!

Damn, PSU?!? Is this the Devil raising up and getting decades of retribution against the school that was squeaky-cleaner than most Religious-Minded schools the past 40-50 years now?
Unreal -- here's hoping the Nittany Lions get all this bad news out from their associations ASAP!
No malice towards the State College school from this observer -- just wonder what's next for them?
When do we find out about the Lady Lions' off-court money-making operations in fields other than their studies, some involving Red Lamp Districts and street corners? That just seems like the next shoe to drop in that Peaceful Valley!
