Should BYU get a 1 seed

Personally, not yet. BYU and San Diego State have had good years, but besides beating San Diego State twice, the only other notable win is against Arizona at home. The other number 1 seeds in contention as of right now is Duke, Kansas, Texas, Pitt, Ohio State, Purdue, and San Diego State if they win out and win their tournament. Unless Kansas loses to Missouri and to a non rank team in the Big 12 tournament, they are pretty much guaranteed a number 1 seed. Texas losing yesterday will drop them out for contention for now, but winning out and beating KU again on neutral ground will boost their chances again. Pitt has a good shot at a number 1 seed, and with the Big East, a good Norte Dame could get a number 1 seed if they win out too. If ND wins out, that could allow two number 1 seeds to be from the Big East.

The Big East is considered the best conference in basketball, and seeing them chew up half of the number 1 seeds isn’t unlikely. Likely the other two number 1 seeds will be chewed up by a Big 10 and a Big 12 school. Overall I think BYU lacks the overall resume that the other big conference schools have to be a number 1 seed, but BYU will have a good argument if they win out and get a little help from the other conferences woes; however, currently I think the number 1 seeds are chewed up by more deserving teams.

Should BYU get a 1 seed

Exactly WVU! I believe BYU deserves a one seed if they win out, especially considering that some upsets occured like Duke and Pittsburgh within the last week; however BYU needs to win out to be considered a 1 seed as losing to any team with the exception of San Diego State on netural ground would be considered a big upset. They might still have a chance to have a 1 seed if they lose to San Diego State, but they'll need help from other teams losing in their championship tournaments. If KU, Pitt, Duke, or Ohio State lose in the early rounds of their tournament, then I see it giving BYU some breathing room to be a 1 seed.

The whole point of my blog post was BYU a couple of weeks ago not deserving a 1 seed since Pitt, KU, and Duke seem more deserving their 1 seeds over BYU; however Duke lost to Virgina Tech, Pitt lost to Louisville, and Texas has been struggling recently when they were considered a potential 1 seed. That's just a few examples, and with championship week it's hard to predict who will rise and fall. And right now BYU looks more like a lock in 1 seed if they avoid an upset.

Should BYU get a 1 seed

If they win out, why not?  Fredette is this year's face of college basketball, and BYU proved that it has a good supporting cast against San Diego State.  The whole thing is a guessing game, and if a #9 seed takes the Cougars out in the second round, who cares?  Look what happened in last year's NCAA Tournament:  Kansas went out quick and ruined everybody's bracket; the Big East stunk up the joint (with the exception of WVU); and Butler was one shot away from winning it all.  If SDSU, UNLV, or Colorado State beats BYU in the MWC tourney, that's another story.

Should BYU get a 1 seed

I use RPI and SOS in my argument, and you call that bias and emotion?  Sure, my feelings might be a little biased due to the fact that I'm a BYU fan, but last time I checked, all the wishing and hoping in the world cannot change a team's RPI and SOS.  Also, you point out some of BYU's worst non-conference opponents, which by the way, is going into that previously mentioed RPI and SOS.  I could easily make a list of creampuffs that Kansas, Texas, and the others you list as "more deserving" have played.  All teams play some mediocre teams, and that plays into RPI and SOS, and since you can't seem to refute that about BYU, you resort to your own opinion of what a "quality" win is, which, I am more inclined to believe is simply based on preconceived ideas of what a good team "is."  In other words, it seems that to you, a "good" win is only over a team that has the big name, which to you could not possibly be other MWC teams.

Convince me that RPI and SOS are in no way an indicator of who the team has played and the resume they've built.  Explain to me why BYU's RPI and SOS is better than your "more deserving" teams, and how that established system is erroneous, and then I'll agree with you.  I'm not here to say that "BYU is overall number 1!" or something like that, but I do believe they've earned and deserve a #1 seed (if the season ended today).

Should BYU get a 1 seed

I hope they do get a #1 seed, because it will be an easier bracket to fill out.  There are easily 20 better teams, and I am so sick of hearing about BYU.  I would be surprised if they made the sweet 16.  I'll give them the bunny game, but wouldn't it just be so sweet to see the first 16 seed win.  BYU has always hung high in the polls, basketball or football, by beating up there weaker division opponents.  The #2 seed in there region would feel like they won the lottery if they give byu a # 1.  I really hope the good teams show them were they belong.
