Terrible Towel Protocol

I have been a Steeler fan since at leas 1970 and even followed them a little before - having owned a Dick Shiner football card. Not sure when I began twriling a terrible towel, but it is now a part of my basic equipment come gameday. I have always been intuitive in its use and wonder if that is the same approach taken by the all in the Steeler nation or if some process has developed. My question is whether any protocol has been developed for use of the terrible towel.

Prior to games, terrible towels can be seen hanging from the backs of pockets like dew rags (my favored position). You also se them wraped around necks like yellow scarves, or casually draped over a shoulder.

The only post game ritual that I know of is hearing folks say they do not wash their towel all season.

During games, I see a lot of waving towels on kick-offs, and key offensive and defensive plays such as a third and long. It is pretty awesome to be at away games and see hundreds sometimes thousands of terrible towels - it drives the home team fans nuts but what the hay. Anyway, let me know what rituals you have for Myron Cope's brainstorm.

Terrible Towel Protocol

As a Steelers fan in St. Louis I love going and seeing the Steelers in town. Towel waving is rampant as over half the fans in attendance are Steelers fans. Unfortunately a lot of them are displaced or bandwagoneers who miss out on some of the etiquette. First and foremost, you may wave the towel at any given time of the game but as you wave it on offense you must not scream and do so. If you do that you are taking away the fact that their are a lot of road fans as you help to create more road noise for the Black and Gold. Pretty bad when your own fans are causing communication issues in the huddle!

I could remove the comments by Handicappers and Ravensmaniac - but it just shows them for the trolls that they are.
