One of the top football players in the state of Mississippi has been charged with misdemeanor domestic violence and felony mischief, according to the Jackson Clarion-Ledger.
Ole Miss verbal commitment Tobias Singleton allegedly punched his former girlfriend, a 16-year-old student at his high school, then kicked a Chevrolet Impala that belonged to the girl’s mother. The report also says that Singleton’s father and two brothers joined him in kicking the car, resulting in $3,321.18 worth of damage. The Madison Central (MS) star, who also goes by Tobias Manning, told police that his former girlfriend had hit his car with her's and then drove off.
“She states that Mr. Manning took it and threw her on the ground and started punching her in the back,” according to the police report obtained by the Clarion-Ledger. “(Redacted) advises that (redacted), the father of Tobias Manning, and his brothers, started kicking the blue Impala, causing damage to the driver and backside of the vehicle.”
A 6-foot-2, 190 pound receiver, Singleton is ranked ninth in the country at his position by MaxPreps and chose the Rebels at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in early January. A court date has not been set but the charges filed could result in jail time of up to five years if convicted.
Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt told the Clarion-Ledger that the school was still recruiting Singleton as of Monday night.
