Where's Jadeveon Clowney going?

Who: Rock Hill (S.C.) defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. MaxPreps number one overall player for the class of 2011.

What’s the big deal: It takes all of one play to see why Clowney is at the top of everyone’s list in 2011. "Clowney is a freak of nature," CBS Sports recruiting expert Tom Lemming said. "He's the best I've seen since Mario Williams.” The 6-foot-6, 240 pound end is a terrific blend of size and speed and his ability to chase down a running back or quarterback is off the charts. Watch some of his highlights (below) and it's no surprise when you hear he racked up 29.5 sacks and 162 tackles his senior year.

When: He will announce on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, which is also his birthday. The announcement will be at 10:15 AM ET and will be live on ESPN.

Considering: Clemson, South Carolina and Alabama.

Best Guess: South Carolina. The latest reports have Clowney deciding between the Gamecocks and the Tigers, which is no surprise since many expected him to stay close to home. Steve Spurrier has made Clowney priority number one from the beginning of the recruiting process and if he works his magic like he did Marcus Lattimore last year, the big defensive end will be suiting up for the Old Ball Coach in the fall.

Where's Jadeveon Clowney going?

After reading the latest report, I hope this kid is even academically eligable to play in the NCAA after putting everyone through this. I am betting that will be the first question asked of him in his widely anticipated news conference. I can see summer school in his very near future if what the New York Times is reporting. Lots of D's on a report card is not what universities want to see, well any good ones.

Where's Jadeveon Clowney going?

I don't get these guys who come on here to comment about a player and make it into a bashing of whether or not the guy is smart enough to know which school he'll choose? What is this the same old ignorant racist stereotyping from the sixties, seventies, oh well yes it is.

Anyway getting back to eveluating this kid from such a limited amount of film. He has what looks to be some great tools which he can improve on to become a true terror at the defensive end position. With his frame he can add 40-50 lbs and still be nearly as quick. His tackling has got to improve because its all arms right now. No one has taught him to wrap someone up and take them down but all that will come from his time in one of the top schools persuing him. I'll be looking for him a few years down the line, he'll probably come out early (which would be a mistake) but his God given talent will be in high demand in a couple of years.

Judging from this film, he's obviously fast and strong, with good instincts.  But he needs a lesson Tackling 101--he's a total arm tackler, and guys even got away from him after a quick encounter just because he seems to have zero technique.  Great upside, obviously, but a huge project, too.

Where's Jadeveon Clowney going?

Seriously is this becoming the popular thing to do with these southern top recruits.  Just because your the supposed best player in the nation one year doesn't mean you need to make a reality TV show out of your decesion on where youg going to play.  Henderson pulled this mess last year with us and looks like this guy is pulling one on Alabama.

Guy get over yourself your a defensive end, not a QB or RB.

The QB on the purple team was the Gatorade National POY, Justin Worley.  Clowney was on him all game.

Where's Jadeveon Clowney going?

This kid is a great athlete but he is not a once-in-a-lifetime talent and yet he is being treated as such.  I'm also sure he also has about 20 "adults" - and I use the term VERY loosely in this case - "assisting" him on how to promote his decision as much as humanly possible.

Seriously... and we as a society wonder why these "kids" have a tendency to turn into egomaniacal sadists that ultimately self destruct into a pool of their own remorse.  Look at the former TV/movie kid stars or people such as Britney Spears and Michael Jackson.  They are teen-aged or even pre-teen "kids" that were fawned upon by adults to a point in which reality no longer existed in most cases - and in nearly every case an adult uses this shameless promotion to prosper themselves personally.

If you throw in the fact that "we" as fans place these kids on a such an unrealistic pedestal and then BLAST them whenever they act like a spoiled child, jerk or just a plain poor sport is just downright puzzling.  What did we expect?  These "kids" don't play by the same rules as everyone else because we make sure that is the case but then we show despicable hatred for that same kid once he/she no longer wears the correct jersey or scores enough points for "us" to win?!?!?

I love football whether it be HS, College or the NFL but goodness sakes people, how do we worship an 18-year-old to such a degree when in actuality none of us would be remotely surprised that if in 5 years he may not even be a starter or possibly out of football all together.

Just saying...
