Virginia Tech had quite the recruiting weekend with their Spring Game going on Saturday but it appears that success has continued on into the week. Chester (Va.) athlete Desmond Frye made his verbal commitment on Monday and it was no surprise it was for the Hokies after visiting Blacksburg for the game.
"I was really comfortable there," Frye told HokieHaven.com. "My parents liked it. It's not too far from home and I felt comfortable with the coaches. I liked how they interacted with the players. I like the way they coach them up.
The 6-foot-2, 170 pound Frye was being recruited the hardest by local programs Virginia and Virginia Tech but also held offers from Duke, Maryland and South Florida. In the end though, putting on the maroon and orange just felt right.
"I just felt like I was at home and it seemed like a good place for me to go," he said. "I liked the atmosphere a lot. The players react well to the coaches."
Frye will likely start out at safety for the Hokies but he has the ability to play wide receiver. As a junior last year, he had 510 yards receiving and six touchdowns on offense to go along with 56 tackels and four interceptions on defense.
