With unprecedented levels of exposure the past few years thanks to several undefeated seasons and BCS bowls, Boise State is a household name for many recruits. The Broncos were certainly have expanded their recruiting reach as well and managed to dip into the state of Florida to find their quarterback for the class of 2012 with the commitment of Orlando (Fla.) signal caller Nick Patti Thursday night.

Boise State coaches were one of the few to extend an early offer to Patti and recruited him heavily over the past month or so. Seeing how they would incorporate him into the offense made them the quarterback comfortable enough to commit without worrying about other programs coming along.

"I don't see that happening and that's why I pulled the trigger so soon," Patti told The Orlando Sentinel. "Anyone could come and put them right next to Boise and it would still be the best place for me."

The 5-foot-10, 180 pound Patti is similar in stature to the Broncos current starter, 6-foot quarterback Kellen Moore. On top of fitting into a system that allows shorter quarterbacks to be very successful, a recent unofficial visit to the school left Patti feeling like the place would be his home for the next four years.

"I loved it then and since I left there I have never had a doubt," he said. "A lot of people say it's like a weight lifted off your shoulders, and I know that's figurative, but it really is ... Actually more like a weight taken off your heart."

Despite his size, Patti has one of the stronger arms in the class of 2012 and would likely have offers from every BCS conference team if he were a few inches taller. He has preformed well during the spring camp circuit and was picking up several offers as coaches stopped by Dr. Phillips High for the evaluation period.

He threw for 1,883 yards and 28 touchdowns with just one interception last season as a junior, often not playing during the later stages of the game because Dr. Phillips was so far ahead.

Patti is the second member of Boise State's upcoming recruiting class.

Boise State reaches into Florida for QB commit

understand that well being a Boise State Fan. How many times is Boise State going to get diamonds in the ruff until Big Schools start doing the same? We all know that since Boise offered him a lot of other Schools were getting ready to as well but Boise State was just a good fit for him. Also I've seen him listed at 5"11 185 lbs on almost every other site for some reason. Boise State can coach him up and the strength coaches will get in top shape. Its awsome that we got a kid out of Florida that is this good, says a lot about the direction of our recruiting.

I think it's a great get for Boise.  I was an undersized guy in Florida at 5'8" 195 lbs. coming out of Tampa area 5A in the early 70s.  I played with 8 D1 guys on my team every day, so they knew I could play a little ball, and unlike a lot of guys, I had the grades and test scores to get an offer from Brown in the Ivy League.  Now, you might say that it's not top notched ball, but hey, it's Ivy League, and they could be paying.  So, this is a pretty typical story for Florida kids.  The skill levels, coaching, and Spring programs just develop a lot of players.

I wish him well, and to be fair a lot of kids fill out and develop later, but our league is very unforgiving to young players who aren't ready from the get- go.

Boise State reaches into Florida for QB commit

This Article somewhat underplays this kid a bit. Nick Freakin Zabin was after him a long time ago but he didn't go through a huge growth spurt and a lot of Big Time Schools Backed off. Just watch Tape of this kid, he can run, has great foot speed and foot work, is accurate, has a strong arm, and a smooth talker already and seems mature. If this Guys was a few inches taller and about 210 lbs were talking every Sec School is offering him. Just watch the film.

That is the point, though.  Florida has a ton of guys- particularly skill guys who can play.  5'!0" 180 lbs. just won't cut it in the SEC, unless he's a kick returner, slot guy, and has world class speed.  The beating these guys get just takes a toll.  I wish him well, and to be fair a lot of kids fill out and develop later, but our league is very unforgiving to young players who aren't ready from the get- go.

When Ohio State does it, a violation is a violation.  When Boise State does it, its a laughing matter. Double standard?

Florida is Rediculous with talent. Up there rivaling Texas and California, with half the population. He sounds like a smart kid, and truth be told, had the big FL schools been after him, Boise probably wouldn't have had a shot. Boise is looking solid at QB for the next 4-5 years.. even with Kellen leaving. I have high hopes and we have a sick stable of WR's right now who will be around for some time. Can't wait to see it all go down!

Well, good luck to the kid.  We produce a ton of talent all through the state.  I didn't even know about this kid- I don't believe any of the state's big schools were recruiting him- we already have a full stable of QBs at Florida.  The Gators are more into D-line, O- line, RB, and LB recruits this year.
