Tennessee snatched up Mableton (Ga.) linebacker Khalid Henderson Tuesday just as a lot of the recruiting world was starting to take notice of the talented defender. After performing well at the Volunteers' summer camp, the coaching staff extended an offer and soon afterwards, Henderson was a Vol.

“I’m familiar with the whole program," Henderson told "I told them I did all my research, so basically, when I came up, it was just like a dream come true. I just had to pinch myself to believe it. I get along with all of the coaching staff. I basically told them (I was) just playing the waiting game."

Henderson held scholarship offers from UConn, UAB, Air Force and Middle Tennessee among others. The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder is looking to play right away and it's possible he'll see some playing time as a freshman. Where that playing time is however, is another matter altogether.

They really haven’t given me a specific position,” he said. “I can make sacks all day. I can come off the edge. I’m great in pass coverage. That’s probably my best asset.”

The leading tackler for his high school team last season, the rising senior is the Vols' third commitment and first on the defensive side of the ball.
