Nick Saban primarily runs the 3-4 defense and in order to run it effectively, he needs a big nose tackle to anchor the heart of the defense and stuff the run. York (Ala.) defensive tackle Darren Lake has gone a bit under the recruiting radar but Saban hopes he's got his next big tackle after the rising senior committed to Alabama on Saturday.

"I wanted to commit that first day, but I waited to make sure it's right," Lake told "I haven't told my mom yet, but she's going to be really happy. I get to play my college ball close to home so she can come see me."

The 6-foot-3, 330-pounder had come on strong the past few weeks and performed well enough to pick up an offer from Tennessee at their summer camp and one from the Crimson Tide shortly thereafter. The latter scholarship offer was the one Lake wanted however and he pulled the trigger on committing a week later.

"Alabama has everything I want and everything I need," he said. "They have great players and great coaches who push you to reach your potential."

Lake racked up eight sacks as a junior last season and becomes Alabama's 14th pledge for their 2012 class. He also is the fourth defensive lineman to commit to taking his talents to Tuscaloosa next fall.
