When Lakewood (Ohio) offensive lineman Kyle Kalis decommitted from Ohio State following the resignation of Jim Tressel, many pegged archrival Michigan as the odds-on favorite to land the top 100 prospect. Sunday afternoon, Kalis ended speculation and made it public that he will be a Wolverine.

Why Michigan? "The coaches, recruiting class, feeling comfortable," Kalis told 247Sports.com.

The 6-foot-5, 300-pounder is ranked 61st overall in the class of 2012 by MaxPreps and is just the latest addition to an impressive recruiting class by new head coach Brady Hoke. Kalis is the son of former NFL offensive lineman Todd Kalis, who went to school at Arizona State and played for the Vikings, Steelers and Bengals during an eight-year career.

Kalis told MGoBlog.com that he would have committed to Michigan several weeks ago following his first official visit but that his coach told him to wait. Instead, he committed following his second unofficial visit to the school on Sunday and has already started recruiting for the school.

The addition of Kalis gives the Wolverines 19 commitments in the class of 2012 and their third Top 100 player. He is also the fifth offensive lineman to verbally pledge as Hoke overhauls the offense in Ann Arbor.

Yeah what an idiot, choosing a world class academic institution like Michigan over OSU. Wasting his time thinking about a Michigan education and degree and how it will prepare him for life after football since we all know there is no such thing. And think of the jalopies he'll have to drive, and the tests he'll have to take himself. He's going to miss being a part of the scarlet and grey nation that's won one national championship in 40 years, what a loser! And all those loses to Michigan in the past, well....we just ran out of time. If we played an extra quarter or two, there's no doubt we would have won all of them , so there!

Usually when a young man changes committments like this it is for two reasons. The first is obvious: the coach who recruited him is no longer there and any promises that were made are no longer valid. The second reason is that this player believes he is doing what is best for him. You cannot fault someone for that. Will he get quicker playing time in Michigan than at Ohio State? Probably. The Michigan program is in need of and undergoing a major revamping. The Ohio State program is not going through this kind of a change making playing time more unlikely for an incoming freshman.

@gobluecolumbus

As I remember it, Michigan hasn't exactly been clean over the past few years.

And it's spelled "liar." You obviously didn't attend the prestigious institution that is the University of Michigan.

Buckeyes are cheaters and liers and this is the only reason why they had the better of Michigan the last ten years. But now that the cheater and lier was forced to resign this will be Michigan's time. Just like it was when John Cooper was there (ten victories in 13 years) And like most buckeyes you underesitmate Michigan. You can think (or hope) whatever you want about Michigan and how they will be like this year, but now that a Michigan man is back as the head coach, you better know that we will be much better. And they will beat your buckeyes. Go Blue! And remember this "Happiness is crushing buckeye nuts!"

Thats right its now Rich Rods program and his entire staff is still intact. TUOS fired Dirty Jim and thats it. Im sure Adam Sandler Fickell knew nothing. BUWAHAHAHAA! A few hours of practice got us a two year probation. What does paying players, playing 6 ineligible players for an entire year, and the countless other major violations going to get them...Just ask the Trojans what happened when they did it with ONE GUY! Oh thats right, Blue Skies and sunny days in columbass, everything is fine!!

Your right, everything is fine and their is no sanctions, bans or loss of scholarships coming down the pipe. There is no reason the top players from the state are de-commitiing and going to your rival. It must be The University of Michigan new "Family Atmosphere" Smile Big smile and blue skie in columbass....All is fine.

And the ability of players to make cash on the side, get free perks and free marijuana wouldnt lure the thugs and better players. Im sure no guys took the deals they could make into consideration. It wouldnt sway me...LOL!

Got to say, I'm impressed with what Brady Hoke has done so far.

This goes to show...the top prospects don't want to be part of a program that has to CHEAT THE SYSTEM to get wins...get players to come and stay there...etc.

OSU is now the "Big" joke of the Big 10.  Oh...and incase you Tressel lovers forgot...Michigan still is winning the lifetime series.  So stick that in your pipe.
