Oregon doubled up on their quarterback commitments Thursday afternoon when Danville (Calif.) signal-caller Jeff Lockie made a verbal pledge to the Ducks.
"I decided to talk to my parents and coaches and we all talked for awhile cause we all had been kind of waiting for it," Lockie told eDuck.com. "Last night, we called up coach (Mark) Helfrich, gave him the good news and then I talked to coach (Chip) Kelly."
Lockie only had an offer from San Diego State but the Oregon staff saw enough in the 6-foot-2, 190-pounder to ultimately offer him a scholarship. The reason the quarterback committed on the spot was because he already had quite the connection with the school.
"I've always kind of have had a tie there with my brother (enrolled) there as a student," said Lockie. "Also, my relationship with (former Oregon wide receiver) Jeff Maehl, as well as with the way they play and the style of offense; that has always intrigued me."
Elite 11 quarterback Jake Rodrigues committed to the Ducks almost three months ago and it's likely the program was planning on taking two at the position after missing out on one in their last class. Lockie gives Oregon eight commitments for the class of 2012.
