The Kevin Wilson era at Indiana is off to a wonderful start as it appears that the Hoosiers may have pulled off the biggest recruiting upset in school history. Quarterback Gunner Kiel of Columbus East High School in Indiana has committed to the Hoosiers. Kiel is widely considered to be the top quarterback prospect in the 2012 class, and MaxPreps has him ranked as the second best high schooler in the country.

The 6-foot-4 216-pound quarterback is the nephew of former Notre Dame quarterback Blair Kiel, and Notre Dame was one of many schools that had made a scholarship offer to Kiel. Schools like Alabama, USC, Georgia, Michigan and Oklahoma just to name a few.

No doubt the idea of working with Kevin Wilson played a large role in Kiel's decision, as he's seen what Wilson was able to do with quarterbacks like Sam Bradford while at Oklahoma. Not to mention that Kiel will have a good chance of being able to play right away at Indiana.

I get it the kid wants to play close to home but even Louisville or Cincinnati are better programs and only an hour away. This is baffling.
Yes, Louisville and Cinci are more established programs. But, as a Hoosier native and IU graduate that now lives in Louisville and travels to Cinci hospitals frequently for work, the campus experience and overall college experience isn't even close. IU is the quintessential traditional college experience. A historic and beautiful campus, wide range of top flight majors in business, science, and medicine, rich greek heritage, awesome bar scene, and it is in the small adoring town of Bloomington. EVERYTHING in Bloomington revolves around IU. Louisville and Cinci have city campuses that are spread out with a lot of older students that are either working on their first degree late in life, advancing their current field, or changing careers. IU's Bloomington campus is almost all 18-22 year olds. Great choice Gunner. Go Hoosiers.

It'll be tough for sure, but he can definitely forge a decent legacy for himself If he can pull off some upsets and put up some big numbers. Either way, can't fault a guy for staying in his home state at a major university.

Good for him. He'll be a legend there forever, set all the records and establish the program. His signing will also bring better WRs and linemen too. One star QB can get it rolling up there.

WTF? What an idiot.

What kind of enormous conceit (not to mention ignorance) does it take to criticize a kid on where he decides to attend college and play football?  Do you know anything about Kiel or his priorities? I don't, but I presume that he weighed all the positives and negatives and chose the place he felt most comfortable.

And I say more power to him.  The easiest thing in the world would have been to follow the prescribed path and pick one of the 20 or so traditional football powers that garner the top recruits year in and year out. Refreshing to see a kid who wants to make his own path and perhaps create his own legacy.  Who knows how things will work out for him but I certainly wish him well. Especially since Notre Dame rarely plays IU in football.

Kevin Wilson is a good coach. Don't necessarily agree with the Hosiers ripping off the Soonier uniforms but whatever....I hope this kid tears it up in Indy!!

First of all Einstein, it's Hoosiers. Secondly, Indiana University is in Bloomington you jacktard

the "jacktard" isn't...but you certainly are - for ripping an obviously well-meant compliment.  y'all have a ways to go before you can afford to be ND-arrogant...IU football (and bb) can use all the friends & supporters it can get.  btw, blithe hoser hoosier, where is the B1G's championship game played in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015?

Beware the Kevin Wilson stach!  Dude can recruit.  Look at the last three qbs (I know Paul Thompson was a wide out, but Wilson was instrumental in getting Rhett Bohmar....even though that wound up a travesty) at OU and you tell me.

Good luck gunner! Power shift in B10, IU on the rise. Seriously with Michigan in collapse and MSU ascending the tables are a turning.
