The Kevin Wilson era at Indiana is off to a wonderful start as it appears that the Hoosiers may have pulled off the biggest recruiting upset in school history. Quarterback Gunner Kiel of Columbus East High School in Indiana has committed to the Hoosiers. Kiel is widely considered to be the top quarterback prospect in the 2012 class, and MaxPreps has him ranked as the second best high schooler in the country.

The 6-foot-4 216-pound quarterback is the nephew of former Notre Dame quarterback Blair Kiel, and Notre Dame was one of many schools that had made a scholarship offer to Kiel. Schools like Alabama, USC, Georgia, Michigan and Oklahoma just to name a few.

No doubt the idea of working with Kevin Wilson played a large role in Kiel's decision, as he's seen what Wilson was able to do with quarterbacks like Sam Bradford while at Oklahoma. Not to mention that Kiel will have a good chance of being able to play right away at Indiana.

The responses are hilarious to me. These people think I'm trying to win a popularity contest. No, this kid will not save this program and he's making a huge mistake in my view, like it or not. I also understand why people hate the SEC. When you are dominant you have more enemies and people after you. Forgive me haters, it's nothing personal!!:)

I'm not surprised at all.  He's a home state boy.  Good for him!

I'm surprised, but then again I'm not too surprised by his decision. Kiel could have went to any school of his choice, but decided to go to his hometown university and has a chance to be "The Man" at a program that's on the verge of "turning the corner" in the Big Ten. With this addition, the Big Ten is going to be loaded with talented QB's for the next few years to come.Surprised

Starting your post with WTF and then calling someone else an idiot, makes you look foolish.  I wish this kid the best.  It has to be tough to make a decision like that.

Smart move. He'll get a good education and there'll be little to no competition for the starting role. He'll be in the spotlight until he chooses to not be in the spotlight. At a bigger school such as UM or OU he'd be pushed to the side at the first sign of inconsistency for the next star recruit behind him, ala Tate Forcier. There'll likely be none of that at Indiana. I wish him all the best, especially for a kid from Indiana.

I hope that the kid can walk on water, because what that program needs is a savior.
