With the arrival of head coach Dana Holgorsen and the school's move to the Big 12, most people thought that West Virginia would be heading to Texas for a good portion of their talent. While that still may be true in the future, the staff is still maintaining close ties to the state of Florida and picked up a commitment Tuesday morning from Hollywood (Fla.) wide receiver Devonte Mathis.

“I had one more talk with my family and we all felt that [West Virginia] is the best option," Mathis told EerSports.com.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound wide out also held offers from Florida State, North Carolina, UCLA, Ohio State and others. One of the key reasons in picking the Mountaineers over such notable schools is largely due to the coaching staff in Morgantown.

“[Coach Holgorsen and Coach Robert Gillespie] were really excited and said they wanted to add to the offense heading into the Big 12,” said Mathis.

Mathis is the 20th commitment for West Virginia's class of 2012 and fifth from the state of Florida.
