Sometimes a player just wants to play college football close to home. Raleigh (N.C.) defensive end Desmond Owino is one of those players and made things official on a visit to North Carolina this past weekend.
“I made the decision Tuesday, but I wasn’t 100-percent sure,” Owino told InsideCarolina.com. “I came [Saturday] and spoke to Coach [Everett] Withers. I just got a feeling as soon as I stepped on campus. I told him what I was thinking, and he accepted.”
The 6-foot-5, 240-pound end held scholarship offers from N.C. State, Maryland, Wake Forest and Purdue. Though he had plenty to think about, Owino is firmly committed to the Tar Heels no matter what happens with the coaching staff and impending NCAA issues.
“For me, it doesn’t matter who goes or who comes to UNC,” he said. “I’m going to stick with UNC. I committed to the school for the education.”
Owino only recently started playing football but becomes the 19th commitment for the class of 2012.
